avoid sectionals if you want the light to flow throughout -- it looks too narrow between fireplace and window wall for a sectional, or a sofa for that matter. I would stay with chairs, loveseats or the like kind to allow more flow of light and space.

How much seating do you need? A new sofa is where I would put the money. I don't think I'd get a fixed chaise sectional, but instead get an ottoman that you can move around.

If your sofa is good quality, perhaps reupholstering it would be a good choice. The scale and style look good and fit the room.

A new rug and a coffee table would be next on the list.

I'd remove the plate rail.

More pictures of the room also would be helpful.

Wondering about placing a console table where the couch is presently and add a large piece of art above to ground that wall. Place two love seats or small couches facing each other (or use two comfy chairs and a couch) with a coffee table centered to the fireplace. At windows place a bench or two small ottomans and add a floor lamp in the corner. The set up would be something like below (but ottomans would be where brown couch is in front of windows). A nice style of rug with craftsman would be an overdyed Turkish.

@decoenthusiaste- Nope, no tv in the house. We mostly just use the room to lounge, hang out, and visit when family is over.

I also want to say that I love Dark Blue, so those are winners in my book. If it were me, I think that I would get another Couch or love seat and put in the corner, between the window and the stair case. At an angle, if need be, to get it to fit. i would then divide up the chairs and put one in front of the window or in the middle of the floor towards your current couch and one with the other group. This gives you far more view and a minimum, depending on your coziness, of 6 seats. If you have some fairly young and you use either benches or ottomans, which can then have trays if you need further drink resting, all of those become additional emergency seating. I would probably get my rugs large enough so couches can be pulled close together, easier if you pull the rug or use the slider things under the feet - just keep them there. Other wise you need to float things either in the middle of the room or along the windows. I don't like in front of the windows due to loss of view, how do you feel about view if centered?

I am going to see what i come up with in dark blues, and to me, the room really wants darker hues? not really cabin feel but warmer, more cuddly? So I am off, will return when I can.

Unless you have a collection that can stand behind the plate rail, I'd remove all of that. Painting all of your trim will be a big job. Not sure I'd take that on unless you hat the way it is. I thinking I'd exchange the barrister bookcase in the dining room with the family wall gallery. Then get a sofa and two chairs. One chair can angle left of the stove, and the other can angle right of the bookcase. A low [proflie sofa can float out in front of the window, centered with the brick stove area. You can use an end table with it by the pony wall that separated the room from the foyer.

I think you can wallpaper or paint the back walls of the displays once you find your colors. That can make a nice accent without completely painting them. How far to place couch from window will depend on how deep it is. I'd say at least 12-18" which can actually make the room appear as though you have the luxury to allow open space behind it. That will help keep from blocking the natural light as much too.

first I see only two build ins both under the stairs. I see no problem with painting them or painting their backs, but not sure you need too.

Here was my seating thought. leave couch one where it is. Put a second couch in the spot on the right side of your drawing where it says 64". I do not know if you have a reason to sit there or it is just a good space, but it does look like a good space. You seem to have much space and yet little. Take the two blue recliners, which I think you probably use? and you can set in the middle of the room, in front of fire? with a table between? I was splitting them up, but this way you could get much better use?

In this one i will put 2 couch ideas. I admit, i have not used this company, but I have read many great reviews. They have like a 100 fabrics, They even do for fuzzy children. I have read like a dozen reviews where they were bought as throw aways for first apt. 10 years later the owners are recovering and getting new arms (yes, the arms are exchangeable) for the new home after marrying. I love your windows and the natural light that comes into your room!! You mention, too, about the views. Have you considered removing those brown blinds and using drapery panels instead? You can them take advantage if the views...unobstructed. The drapes also make a home so much warmer and cozier.

Can you go to Home Reserve online. Like i said they ship from the company and advertise 100 fabrics. They do have leathers and like 6 arm styles.

Oh yes, and that fabric, between you and me it is now called Ikat. tehehe. I will get more pillows and I always give everyone some soft velvets and usually a little silk, but I think here it would not really fit. but if you are into it, i am sure we can fit.

Warm color for walls? Well to tell you the truth, I am very happy as it is, but lets see what I have?

I really do not think i would go darker that Daffodil or Pineapple. Sparkling wine looks dull. Yellow goes very well with dark blue and gives more warmth than gray.
