I made the trip....

To Canada. So pretty ;)

Okay. Maybe I didn't make the long trip to Ontario, but Big Lots is close enough right? Right?

O M G is right. This stuff smells amazing, so clean and fresh smelling. Lemony-Enzyme filled goodness ;)

P&G has nothing on Sunlight. That's for sure.

M headed that way myself as soon ad hubs is outta the shower. I can't wait to huff this stuff

Between MamaP and Mitch....you have 400 lbs. of Sunlight Powder, and in Mitch's Miele front load....you and the Machine will BOTH be dead before you can finish that box. L O L!!!

I'm a little jealous though. Obviously it was not the $10, but the box is HUGE and I can only use 1-2 TBS. max in my machine. We will all be pushing daisies before we could use this up!!!

I could use the whole box at once with a gallon of deformer ;)

It'd give a whole new meaning to Laundry Starch. Lemon Fresh Laundry Strarch ;)

You all are evil enablers...I HAD TO DRIVE 2 WHOLE MILES to get my huge box of Sunlight Ultra. I thought I never would get there ; )

I'm stopping by Big Lots this afternoon. It's right by the gym. Seems crazy not to?

I used an entire heaping scoop and the scoops are huge, I was in testing, 3 bubbles is all I got. I haven't checked the ingredients in this Sunlight yet, but I'm suspecting a healthy dose of SOAP as a suds supressor..something is supressing the suds.

When I first opened this stuff the scent didn't impress me..but I stirred it with my wooden spoon and its a beautiful lemony clean scent.

Mich, its not gonna work as a starch, lol..with the amount I used and only one rinse and no FS the towels came out soft and fluffy and fresh smelling. I will say as well as this cleaned my white towels..it must be loaded with Peroxide so I'd be careful with colors and darks.

LOL Mustang, that box was heavy, I think you will like it.

Sandy you will never use it all but you can always spread it around to friends and family..I'm thinking of mixing it with some Lavender detergent..bet it will smell greatttt.

    Who makes this Sunlight detergent?

    Sun Canada

I made the trip too! I think I have a lifetime supply of detergent!

I can just picture all of us rushing into Big Lots to grab this Sunlight..the stores main database is probably going crazy, Sunlight detergent being sold all across the country has caused a boom in sales. Wont be long until the press is camped out in front of Big Lots.

Actually, it wouldn't surprise me... If we did cause a artificial demand for Sunlight ;)

Got my box so I can be cool and fit in. There were only 2 left so just in time :). Also grabbed a few more boxes of Tide. There were also boxes of old Gain if anyone is into that.

My store had a lot of Gain..and gigantic boxes of Tide pods.

I saw the Tide pods too! They always have the weirdest things. I scored boxes of Kind bars for $2 so that made up for the detergent, right? :)

Larsi has been quiet, bet he's sweatin it up in.

Mama, yup the box was heavy and it was on the HIGHEST shelf in the store. Maybe they didn't think there would be any takers.

LOL MamaP. Actually I am teaching for a BIG Lululemon Athletica Event tomorrow night, Sat 11/7 6-10pm. I'd love ya'll to join me!!!

41 lbs? WOW...that is amazing!!! I am so proud of you. That is a major accomplishment! Major!!! Never focus on how much more to go... if you want that, and need it...it will happen. Focus on the monumental achievement of losing 41 lbs. Put 41 pounds of rice or detergent in your arms, or in a wagon and pull it around, or carry it. THAT is how much less you weigh. XOxoXO

MamaP that is terrific! Congratulations on your hard work!

Thanks guys...I focus on 2 pounds at a time, that's it, but speaking of rice I love white rice, I know carbs, BUT I lose weight eating white rice, for breakfast I have a Catnation instant breakfast drink, I can not force food into myse lf in the morning, for lunch its whatever I find in the frig or some soup for dinner its almost always white rice with veggies..love it. And I never gave up my cookies and milk..lol..for years my favorite cookies and milk has been a handful of frosted mini wheats cereal dipped in 1% milk. It just works lol.

Anyway thanks guys....when its all done I'll post before and after pics haha

Well done Mama! Do you feel better? More energy? To me that's my motivation to eat right and work out.

MamaP....I love white rice and pasta with BUTTER. Real, salted butter. It is, as I say a Quality of Life issue for me!! LMAO.

If you are eating balanced and getting your recommended protein and fiber and you like white rice, you know...EAT IT!!

I like Graham crackers with salted butter. One of my fav snacks. Cookies and milk are yummy too. But for me, anything with butter makes me the happiest!!!

Fresh bread with olive oil, olives cheese and salami is my weakness. Frosted mini wheat cereal was my food of choice during my last pregnancy, dry with water :)

Mamapinky, 41 pounds is some fantastic weight loss! Be very proud of yourself, woman, losing weight is never an easy thing to do!! Hell, I am even proud of you for doing it!

Thank You everyone, once upon a time I was thin...actually up till about 10 years ago, I always tell myself..Nothing tastes as good as thin feels. My sister taught me that years ago, and she would sure know as she is georgous. Sandy yes I do feel better, my energy level is never going to be high with RA and Lupus, but Ifeel much better.

Larsi is there anything as good as real sweet cream lightly salted butter, lol, there is no fake artificial butter in my house, lol.

Joel, I'm singleing you out to say THANK YOU loudly...I think once you and I got off on the wrong foot..but youve turned out to be a fun and intelligent guy..Thank you for your support.

We did, and I whole heartedly apologize for ever being such an ass to you. I have come to actually adore you, and several other members on here. I always look forward to coming here, getting and offering advice, and having some fun with all my fellow laundry nuts!

I'm also sorry and apologize for being a ass to you Joel, I value your opinions here and think your pretty terrific. Isn't it great that we can be so adult like one minute and total childish laundry freeks the next LOL.

Mamma if you have the time, walking is a great easy exercise to help you stay fit, get your heart rate up, and lose weight. Also, for you RA, water aerobics is just the thing. It's an easy low impact exercise for your joints and will also help keep you in shape.

41 # is impressive indeed!! Maybe it's all that focus on laundry and detergents. Hey, I'll try anything.

Tide, I do try to walk when I can and now that the weather is getting cold, my RA can't do cold, I go to walmart and walk indoors LOL, yes I try to keep a brisk pace walking around and around, its a small town so all the employees know I'm there to walk, the store manager has walked with me a few times and has told me that Walmart won't be responsable if I fall...but he was just doing his job and he was nice about it, he needed to cover his butt. I suppose Walmart isn't a gym but it works for me, maybe I'll start using weights, the canned veggies LOL. The things you can get away with in a little country town haha.

Mustang, lol..detergents are fat free....LMAO I'm joking...they are only fat free on Thursdays. Haha

I had some luck today. I found old formula Lestoil, and only 2 bars of Octagon left in my whole county!! That Sunlight jumped in my cart and would not get out, so I had to take it home.....

    last modified: 10 years ago

What is Lestoil? Is it similar to Dettol? :)

It is a heavy duty degreaser and all purpose cleaner. I have been wanting some anyway, but I recently learned they changed the formula and it is not as good as it once was. I went searching for some old stock, and found this at a little old grandma grocery story today. I have a dark blue duvet with some grease stains that I cannot seem to shift, and I have tried everything color safe. I am almost at the point where I am going to boil wash it. I want to try this first.

Joel..what kind of washer and dryer is that I see a peek of?

The dryer is a GE, from about 1979. It has a matching washer, but she needs a new transmission. The washer is a 1977 Maytag A806, and it also has a matching dryer. I have 5 washers and 3 dryers. lol. My Miele washer is my daily driver, and then I use my vintage top loaders as my second washers/toys. I rarely use a dryer, I prefer to line dry. I keep one hooked up, just in case I need it.

Oh, I love vintage washers LOL. I knew those were vintage, I just didn't know what kind. I bet your a member over on AW also hehe. I sent a few members over to AW once to check it out and they were shocked at all the vintage machines lol. Someday I will have a vintage washer...something spectacular too..lol.

Vintage Maytag washers are very similar in wash action to your SQ. I love them all, for different reasons.

I am a member of AW, but I never post there anymore. I have been to one wash-in a few years ago in Maryland, and it was so fun! You definitely need a vintage washer toy!!

Detergents and appliances galore, I reckon I am certified cray-cray now. LOL.

Joel, yes, you are certified for sure, but along with all those awesome machines and detergents you remained a great guy.

I have and use Fels Naphtha and Murphy's Oil Soap. Are Octagon and Lestoil significantly better or different? Along with the Sunlight, which I did not buy, I am wondering if these are must-haves, or just special because we cannot find them on a daily basis. I'd love objective opinions.

Joel H., Your machines are lovely. I envy them. I'd love to own one, but I am not handy and have no idea how to restore things. I just live through y'all on youtube. There is an old thread hanging around the laundry room somewhere on which many of the regulars here have posted their laundry set-up. I think your machines would make an interesting addition.

Elcamino, I just have a preference for Octagon because it is a better multi-tasker than Fels, in my opinion. I honestly have never used Lestoil, and I am only going by other's opinions of it. Murphy's is for cleaning, but I have never considered it a grease cutter. The Sunlight seems to get good reviews from members here, so I had to have it and try it for myself.

Thanks for the compliments in my machines. I do take good care of them. In all honesty, I have no clue how to do major repairs. lol. I can do belts and the basics, but the rest of it I am just going to learn on my own, as I go. I have a few friends who know appliances from AW.org, and they offer me help as I need it. My Maytag set was sold me to fully restored by an AW.org member about 5 years ago.

Joel, have you tried the Sunlight yet? Let me know what you think of it and if you have suds.

Not yet! I am dying to wash a load of dirty whites in it. I wash dirty whites and lightly soiled whites separately, go figure. lol. I have a habit of wearing white socks outside, but they have to be spotless on the bottoms or I will not wear them. That, and kitchen towels are my most challenging loads. I will let you know how it goes!

Whites are finished and hung up. Overall, I am pretty impressed. I would normally run a pre-wash, but I skipped it today because it was just a small load. I did 140 F wash, with a 30 min soak added. I added up to line 1 on the scoop, intentionally. No other additives. I had some suds, but not out of my comfort zone. As soon as the cool down began, the suds went almost completely away. 2 rinses, final rinse was clear and no suds. Everything smells very nice, and everything is clean. Even the worst pair of socks I had in there just have a shadow of dirt remaining. I think I am going to like it, and for the price, I cannot complain! I shall try it on towels tonight. :)

Joel, good..I'm glad you had nice results..I'm surprised you had any suds..I used a heaping scoop and those Sunlight scoops are huge and I only had like 3 large bubbles..I used this much during suds testing LOL. For the price its a good detergent. I think you will have good luck with the towels, I used it on white bath towrls everything came out great..and white kitchen towels again everything washed great. I'd buy it again Lol.
