Just wondering why did you choose not to do a backsplash in the whole kitchen? I would put a light colored splash throughout after removing the 3" splash you have now and definitely put it all the way up the wall behind the stove. Maybe a mother of pearl look with creams and some bling? Just a thought.n

You need the backspalsh and the blingier the better

A calacatta marble slab backsplash behind the stove could be the wow and focal point that you are looking for.

I really like the bling idea of the mother of pearl backsplash..it would be gorgeous!

I think if you highlight the area behind the hood with a shiny stainless type of tile that will give you the WOW

I love the marble behind the stove idea. Don't bother replacing the backsplash around the whole kitchen -- just some really stunning marble will definitely do the trick.

I love the idea of the backsplash. I would not paint new cabinets. For myself - gray and white is not colorful - consider adding color - maybe in decor, but perhaps in the backsplash.

Hi. I think the stove/hood are in the black/grey family so fade into the wall. I agree on the marble backsplash. Timeless, elegant. Large format tile or slab would be best in my opinion. Otherwise it might just look busy. Personally I am not a huge fan of a backsplash except where it's needed, so I really like your existing backsplash, as is.

I would not paint your new lower cabinets black...they will be indistinguishable from your island table and even more blah. Could we see a closer picture of your granite?

I would find some way to make my cabinets look like they are to the ceiling. The drop is throwing me off. Some type of trim work maybe. A colorful back splash for sure. Incorporate a metallic. Copper or silver or gun metal.

I might also suggest some lighter colored bar stools to tie in with the cabinets or paint on the walls. Right now the island looks a little heavy to me and not connecting with the outside walls.

It's a lovely kitchen. Remove all the small clutter and use some accessories that pick up the colors from the living room - maybe the yellow to brighten things up. New pot for the flowers on the island and some cushions for the bar stools. You just need some color.

Blue wall paint in the kitchen can pick up the blue from the living room. Also consider adding a behind-stove slab of blue pearl granite to match your island.

Great start on your kitchen!!! Lets add a nice backsplash, remove some of the clutter some select accessories. Consider some crown molding along the tops of the cabinets too. Again, great kitchen! Along with a higher backsplash I would have the top cabinets finished off at the top. I would want them to look as though they went to the ceiling with a nice moulding. I think those two things will help the kitchen feel more finished.
