A few more blooms

My roses are still producing new growth but with the shortened days and low sun angle, the pace of blooming has definitely slowed down. It's as if we transitioned from summer one week to winter the next. Here are a few blooms from when we were still in summer -- only just last week.

All American Magic

Mr Lincoln

Double Delight

Nicole Carol Miller

Summer Love

Julia Child

Abbey de Cluny

Polka

Bella Roma

Lyda Rose

Hope you enjoyed these blooms!

Great pics! Trying to choose a favourite .... All American Magic? But I also like DD, Abbey de Cluny and what about.... too difficult - they are all lovely! Would also love to see some garden pics.

Abbey de Cluny is so tempting. How old and tall is it? TIA

Thanks Sharlene! My garden is in transition so I only wish to share a couple of pics. I have a main planter bed running through the center of the garden next to a pathway. The planter contains All American Magic, Lady Bird Johnson, Fragrant Plum, Betty White, Mr. Lincoln, Perfume Delight, Summer Love and Brother Cadfael. I've got some Knockout-type roses interspersed. The other side of the pathway has Julia Child and Easy Does It. Most of my Austins are planted on the other side of JC and EDI and have only been there a year, and not that attractively planted so no photo of Austins en masse yet. Other smaller planters have my PJPII, Fragrant Cloud, Rock N Roll, Abbey de Cluny, Paradise Found and Double Delight. I've opened up some new areas of the garden by removing old shrubs and hope to plant some rose standards in the spring. Will share pics of those if they work out!

Hi Irisgal -- AdC has been in the ground for three years I believe. It's huge - maybe 5 x 7 by end of summer. Here's a photo of the first spring bloom this year when it was still relatively small. I put a small planter in the photo for scale for a friend who was curious about AdC's size. It's a beautiful rose but not fragrant in my garden. It was fragrant when I bought it at Regan but my microclimate is drier than Fremont. :( It also hates rain. The buds and blooms ball and become like clumps of wet newspaper layers. Since it rarely rains during our growing season, it's not a problem 90% of the time. It's very healthy and always blooming, but since I'm a fragrance nut I don't think I would buy this again.

    Hope that helps!

Ann, thank you for posting the garden shots. I am always looking for ideas on planting combinations.
The roses along the path are lovely. Love the curve and the variety you have planted. As for that picture of Abbaye de Cluny - wow! Gorgeous specimen! Pity that it balls - thanks for the pointer.
Look forward to seeing pics of your garden after the transition:)

I would love to take a slow stroll down that lovely walkway, examining each flower. Thanks for posting the photographs.

Love your curved pathways and the combo of Julia with Easy. The other side looks great too. Wonderful birches.

Thank you for the information on Abbaye. I saw it at Filoli and one bud was balled with almost crepe paper texture to the petals. It seemed to me to be a rose with great dignity ??? Your bush looks superb.

Irisgal -- Your choice of the word "dignity" is really great for AdC. It has a naturally beautiful form with no shaping needed at all. I must qualify what I said about the balling problem. After the .75 inch of rain we had earlier this week, the rose is fine. I think the problem with balling sets in when we have rain plus continued moisture in the air as in spring conditions. Our fall air is still very dry so I think the bit of rain (and hail) we got around the Napa region had minimal impact on AdC. I do remember last spring being very surprised by deadheading heavy unopened buds and blooms that would thud into my pail because they were so filled with water. Crepe paper is another brilliant description!

Beautiful photos, Ann. I've been interested in AdC for years and your photos of it have re-tempted me, really lovely. Also, love Lyda...may have to have that!

Hi - Thank you! I purchased Lyda Rose for a shady spot because it's supposed to be shade tolerant. However, I think she would like a bit more sun because she's still a bit small. Lyda is in OR so it may be just that OR doesn't do well in my yard or zone similar to my situation with Jude the Obscure.

I love your roses and your garden shots!!! The first garden shot is what I think rose gardens should look like. That's just beautiful!!! Sigh :)

I can't pick a favorite rose - they're all too beautiful to choose.

    Wow!
