That grey is not the correct color for that room. While I understand your wanting to update the color scheme from its current Tuscan decor, that grey is off and I concur a cold, color. It reminds me of the color of a corpse - so please ditch it.

Gray tones come in varying casts from pure gray to blue, green or brown undertones. So grays can be current but not ultra trendy if you pick the right one. For example, this room is BM Gray Wisp which casts more to blue. The trims are BM White Down. A darker version of this colour is called BM Piedmont Gray and is a beautiful shade. Going to the browns Kingsport Gray is a nice colour. Currently the pure gray tones are very trendy and may not work well with your traditional furniture.

I think you need to think more about the pieces that you're keeping and your rustic/Tuscan aesthetic. I would advise looking at warmer more harmonious neutrals for the walls, keeping the colour light. Would you consider more pale biscuit colour that would offset the bronze curtains? You could try getting paint swatches and find one that is a really diluted version of the curtain's hue?
I think that colour direction might be more faithful to the Tuscan feel, good luck :)

Wow! That's quite the ceiling, and I mean that in a good way. If you are planning to paint out the dome, consider a Venetian plaster technique. While this has been overdone in some parts of the country, it is still a beautiful finish that goes with every design style. Done in pearly colors, the sheen will be beautiful on your ceiling dome.

I spent some time trying to help versus criticize. The flat color of grey is never going to work for your elegant home. If you are trying to modernize it think of silver versus grey. Think silver and gold for the dining room which would be more in keeping with your home. Another modern color would be a green with gold. Here are some photos for ideas. Ignore the fru fru in the green dining room - its just being proposed for the wall and ceiling color.

Gorgeous room. I think the SW Oyster Bay would look beautiful with a mostly-white ceiling, perhaps with a light bronze-gilt bit in the dome. My suggestion is that you get the room primed in white from top to bottom, then use foamcore boards to test colors. The red paint casts so much red reflection on samples that it would be hard to see the colors as they'd be without it. The bronze curtains could be wonderful with the light silver blue gray- it'll be easier to tell without the red.
