Speaking of snaps....

I want to make some bibs and rather than sew the traditional silver, black, or white snaps on them, put something more "now" on them. I saw some really cute plastic snaps, but in order to use them, I must purchase a special tool for $15! Do any of you of a nice snap that doesn't require a special tool, or at least a tool without that "special" price?

The ones I have for my husband's shirts the directions to put them on are on the back of the card. It says to use a thread spool and a hammer I think. Somewhere in the hidden caverns of my sewing room, I used to have the tools to put them on. I would not think it would be a foam spool.
