Did you know that many African Violets are started from a single leaf? It's probably easier that way than with seeds. Here is a link: http://www.violetbarn.com/lessons/violets_by_leaf.htm

You might ask around-church, friends, Craigslist--and see if anyone would offer you a leaf or two. I think the hardest part would be finding someone, but many people have African Violets. They are low maintenance, always look good and do well. That's probably why your grandmother wants one! If I had one I'd mail you a leaf. Good luck.

Yea she always used a leaf, but seeds would offer a lot of variety and more forgiveness. If you do something wrong and the leaf doesn't root, your out of luck. If you have a bunch of seeds and one doesn't germinate you can always try again with the extras.
