The combo you stated works, just the opposite works, monochromatic works. Personally I like the light cabinets, which seem to be the most popular, but have also fallen in love with the dark moody kitchens. The real question is what do you like!!!

I think the dark espresso cabinets are really starting to be going out of style IMO white cabinets are timeless and i think the counters can be vv ery light or dark depending on the space and your style. I do agree though it sould be what you love,

Thank you both! I love both and had originally thought to have a dark island and light cabinets. The quartzite is unique and I want to make sure all looks good together! Back splash is coming out today and depending on color of cabinets we will a subway tile of some sort. Keeping Saltillo floors but re-finishing. We are remodeling entire kitchen.
