Which white for our kitchen cabinets?

We are painting our kitchen cabinets white, but I'm having a hard time deciding on a color. Our painters use Kelly Moore but I believe anything can be color matched. I was thinking about Swiss Coffee, and they also suggested Decorator White or Dover White. Because our countertops, tile, and backsplash are brown and beige, I don't want anything too white.

Which white would you recommend? Do you recommend trying to match to the pantry door or trim? To finalize colors, would you recommend buying samples and painting the cabinet or something else?

Thank you in advance for all your help! :)

You are right about avoiding white, since your counters and backsplash have lots of beige in them. I'm not familiar with Swiss Coffee, but it sounds like it could work nicely with the other elements in your kitchen. Do you have a sample of the color?

If you are planning to keep the trim white-doors and moldings, I would choose a color that is more beige than white for your cabinets, so there is a contrast between the trim and the cabinets.

We used Accessible Beige on our kitchen cabinets, and we love the color. We did end up painting all the woodwork in the kitchen including the pantry doors and trim the same color bc the white ended up feeling too stark.

Thanks, Karen. What do you think about matching the cabinets to the trim?

It's too bad you want to paint the cabinets, I like the contrast and character their current color gives to the space.

I've attached some more photos of the kitchen. I feel like it's just a whole lot of brown, and very dark. I do plan on keeping the island the same color however, and just painting the cabinets.

Since your floors are beige, as well, I would definitely choose a color that complements them. What about choosing a color similar to your wall color or slightly lighter to paint the cabinets and then leaving the trim white?

Painting all the trim in your home to match the cabinets will be more costly and a lot more work.

eunielkim, I would try to choose a beige color to paint the cabinets. The beige would complement your backsplash and flooring. Since there is enough contrast between beige and white, you could leave all your trim white.

I do understand you wanting to paint your stained cabinets. I just got tired of the stained cabinets, and they just made the kitchen feel so dark. A lighter color will brighter your space and update your kitchen.

    Hope the picture helps.

In answer to your question, if you choose a lighter color (an off white such as dove white) you will probably want to paint all the trim to match the cabinets.

Go buy a Ben Moore color wheel. Don't just take suggestions. Decorator white imo has a grey cast. I used it in my hall and like it.

    Hi---

Swiss Coffee is beautiful but might be too stark. Check BM's Natural Cream. If you prefer a lighter shade, you could have the NC tinted @75%. Hope this is helpful. Good Luck!

I agree that white or even off white will be too light. A soft tan shade will do a lot for you - look at this kitchen (these have been antiqued after with stain but are sw wool skein). Look for colors that fade into the backsplash for color tone to get it right for your space. Click on photo to see the full scene or go to the link and see other images of this kitchen by one of houzz' top designers. See how these contrast with the white crown moulding and ceiling but flow? That is what you want.

I definitely recommend changing the wall color---a bit too green for both the floor and counter. BM'S Stone Hearth and Thunder would be good options. :))

Thank you for your time and comments, everyone. I definitely intend to stop by the paint store and paint some sample swatches on wood planks or something to compare. I will likely go towards a creamier color, and stay away from anything too white.

Leave it to the very "talented" Mark and Natalie to come to the rescue! Beautiful renderings Mark and great suggestions on colors Nat!

Karen I was following your lead for color on the first rendering I did so the credit goes to the talented Karen :)

Think about trying to match the white trim and door that are there now. It might look a little odd to have two different whites in the same room. The white door is right next to the kitchen cabinets.
