Replacing Carpet Upstairs- please Help!

We used Bamboo in beach townhouse downstairs. Beautiful but due to installation issues some buckling. Stairs painted teal and want wood upstairs. Considering Bamboo but what is a budget friendly contemporary alternative ? We hear Engineered is best way to go?
