Pagan, yes, three of them grown from seeds myself. I don't blame a person for getting started, but "it". "It" is a habitat-collected specimen Adenium multiflorum 8 km from here at The Botanical Garden of Copenhagen. ;-)

That looks like an old one, Martin. And they are not lifting it--I bet the roots on that is gigantic by now. I hope they still have it at the conservatory.

Rick! You're not lifting much either. The caudex on your plants must be huge by now. Do you think your "somalense" is an obesum instead?

Pagan, this particular plant was labeled "Somalense", but the jury was out on it because the leaves where not true to species, so was told to wait and see what the flower looked like. Does not have the Somalense traits either. Who knows.

Have lifted a few times, but the last time 2yrs. ago now. I decided to plant in a 12" bowl in hope that the root mass would grow wider, rather than deeper.. I have always been a fan of adult trees in a more " /\ " shape as opposed to the opposite or straight sided.

I think I like them that way too, Rick. Although I'm really more concerned about shaping the root tangle instead of untangling and spreading them out. In the spring I'm planning to raise everyone over 3 years old for the first time. The down-side now is I have to start accumulating pots for staging. I hate that. It's like buying shoes. Still, I'm keen to see if anyone of them is ready to be in what I will consider to be their permanent pots. Especially my minis.

When I was a grad student in Philly, I wanted to get a couple of plants for my apartment. A local nursery/gift shop sold me a Dracenea and a weird looking noid. I didn't know what the noid was but I figured all plants are about the same, and I planted it in miracle gro potting mix and placed it in an east facing window. It didnt last too long, but before it died I was able to id it as an adenium. Several year passed, but I never forgot the name adenium. The summer I graduated and moved back west, I bought some seeds on ebay. Several of those plants are still alive, along with a few grafted plants, and nearly 40 seedlings. I also planted another dozen seeds last night. It's an addiction.
