Laura!!! Don't even think of enabling me for these! I don't think I could ever grow one up here almost near the North Pole, but seeing you do so and be so kind to share is all I need to make me happy!!
What a fantastic job as always, no fear of roots, and such a great desire to give them the best fresh start anyone could do!
They're just something else, Laura! We love them! I'm so happy for you! :-)
I can't wait to see them blooming!
Hi Mike!!
You have me smiling because I know how much you love Adeniums!! So... I do know you would love these beauties..
I do have an addiction to a few varieties of trees!! There is no doubt with your growing skills and your awesome care that you provide... Hmmm? They do call me an anabler on some forums.. Lol!!!
Thank you for always being so supportive!!
Jodi...Thank you as well for all of your kind comments!! You had me laughing with you post over on the other forum.. Sounds like Larry likes these different trees!! I think you will love having one of these Arabicums in your home !! These don't have the different colored blooms, but they usually always have a single pink flower. I'm happy with the blooms and I love to see what the roots have in store for me over the years! That is the exciting part of growing...
Lol Al... No pressure !! Thanks for your support too! You are always so helpful.. My trees are loving the mix .. I see leaf growth already !! Yes !!!!!
Take Care!!

The moment my Old Guy got a look at them, Laura, he was just in awe at the shapes, the roots, how interesting and unique they are... and he immediately threw a barrage of questions at me, like... when can we order one, what's the best time of year, how many types or varieties are there, how much would a small one cost, can we grow one here, do we have the right conditions, etc, etc... it was so endearing!
I'm afraid I have created a monster by showing off your plants! Not that I mind! :-)
He was pretty amazed by the blooms the Plumeria you gifted me with gave... he liked the scent very much, and he was very impressed when I showed him your Plumie collection!
I even Googled everything for him so he could get a look at what's out there, and how some people grow them... oh, he's always liked plants just fine, but I've never seen him so excited at the prospect of trying something like this!
I suspect he can't wait until spring, now! :-)
Hi Jodi!
It sounds like he is very excited about these beauties and Im Thrilled he finds them just as interesting!! Lol.. I love the excitement that he has and you both will enjoy watching these trees grow!!Late Sprng will be the best time to order one since there will be no fear of frost or low temperatures to damage them. My order was right on the cut off line for my fear of them sitting somewhere getting exposed to the cold temps. I'm so glad they didn't get held up!!
These Arabicicum were grown from seed and then at some point they cut the bottom tap root off clean along with the other roots. ( flat cut) and will root them all over again to creat this Centipede trained root system They actually place a plastic disc to cover the bottom to encourage the roots to grow from the outer edge of the Caudex. They will lift and trim and leave the roots they want.. . It is like they have created a new tree from a cutting, but it did start out from a seed to seedling and then flat cut to train roots all over. It's amazing what can be done.
Im So glad that L loved the Plumeria blooms.. They are such a pleasure to grow and then gift to friends like you!!! ;-)
i hope you have a wonderful Holiday with your family..
Take Good Care!!
Laura
Lol, I jumped the gun. I didn't get past Al's link at the top, so I posted on the other thread first. I saw a video on You Tube about how the roots are removed and they put a plastic disc under the plant like Laura said, but it was in Spanish.

Rob!!
Thank you for the other message on the other thread!!! ;-)
This way of root training is called " Centipede Root Training". I'm so glad mine were started early.. The largest tree ( Dino King) is only 18 months old.. I had to ask Dino again... Still can't believe the young age of these trees...
Laura
Wow! That's incredible! They must love that Thai environment. Were they naturally dormant when he sent them? When will they start leafing out?
Your Plumeria might feel a bit intimidated now.;-)
Rob
Lol, Rob!! I'm sure my other trees will feel intimidated and I'm sure they are even feeling it now because I moved some of my smaller trees from their usual spot under the T-5 lights for the winter to make room for these new guys...
The trees that he sent were In Full leaf before he prepared them for mailing to the U.S. You can see he bare rooted them and defoliated them to send on their journey. I can see some of them leafing out right now under my lights. I didn't want them to go dormant this year since I just potted them up. Trying to keep them active and give the roots some space to make their new home!!
My trees in leaf right before he mailed them...

Might sound a little silly but what is each part of Big F + ( MKMK + BH) are prior to the cross breeding.
- 10 years agolast modified: 10 years ago
Hi Nomen..
No silly questions at all. We are all still learning. I asked Dino about " Big F". He says its just that...
MKMK = Muang Kong Mora-Kot
BH = Blackhawk
I believe these are all of Dino's hybrids. If JP can maybe help answer?
There is a list that he put together for others.. I'll go copy and put it here for you too. It might help others...
Take good care,

They are just so cool, Laura! My husband thinks they are awesome, and he rarely says a thing about any of the plants I have or am interested in. The biggest reaction I ever saw from him came years ago when I dragged him to an orchid show/sale at a local grower, and he ooh'ed and and ahh'ed over the different kinds and shapes and sizes! We ended up buying several small plants off a sale table, but who can say no to $2 orchids in 2" pots?!
But I fear your Adeniums may have created a monster, which isn't a bad thing! At least it means he'll be helping me save to get one come next spring! He just thinks they're the neatest looking things he's ever seen in the plant world... and I've gotten some strange looking bulbs over the years! Scadoxus, for example, seems to have a strangely shaped bulb.
Anyway... we just love them, and thank you for sharing your photos!
Have a great holiday season! :-)
Just wow Laura. They look like aliens from a science fiction. As usual, I get this unstoppable desire to acquire one or two or ten of those Adeniums every time you post your pictures.
HI Laura!!! I had to take a second look my fiend! By the way, got your message and thank you. We all love you here)))) I will text you soon. Been sick(

tropic: was going to be my second silly question.
Laura where to and how to... do I get one or two ? ( due in part to a minor lack of winter space I wont be needing ten). I suspect a plant import stamp is needed as well ?

Hi Guys and Gals!!!
So sorry I missed your post, Jodi. It's been so crazy around my house with the Holidays and then having my grandson share his cold with me and the hubby... I had it the longest this time...Seemed like I was ill for about 10 days. Finally feeling better after all of that. Whew!!!! ;-) now it's back to work up in the crazy skies... Ugh
Hearing how much L likes these trees brings me such joy.. It's a wonderful feeling and I'm tickled that he is so interested !!! You have a keeper!!!
Always happy to share and help you guys... Xo
Hi Tropic. Lol. They certainly do look like an alien.. I always think they look like something from the ocean.. The kind that will eat a whole fish of it swims by. Lol. You know that I have the same desire as you, my friend. If you ever need a friend to enable you. Or point you In The right direction, just let me know. Lol
i promise that I wont let you purchase to many.. Besides . The shipping cost will help you stop too!!! But it sure is worth it to buy from him.. Just ask me if you need help. Always glad to help you!! ;-)
hi Mike.. Please feel better.. Always glad to see a Message from you! You always have such kind things to say. Mahalo, my friend!! Xoxox. Miss you...
Hi Rob ... I trimmed a few little roots on these new babies, but I won't do any pruning until this summer. That's when I will looks at the roots and follow what Dino has started on a few of mine. He calls it " decorating " the roots. Aka trimmimg them and cutting roots to train to have a certain look.. I did cut a few areas off of one tree and I let it hang for three weeks . I placed sulphur powder over the cuts and I made a paste to paint onto the roots that had little blemishes on the outer roots.. I just potted one up last week. It was hanging for around 4 weeks and is looking good . This was the one that had some issues It looks great now after I did my surgery and put the sulphur on it Let it dry hand and it seemed to help a
lot!!
The other trimmimg will be this summer. I just wanted to get them in my gritty mix and let them stay active . I have new leaves on most of them now... I will have to take some pictures and post..
Noman... Dino will take care of the main P certificate . We do not need anything since we are not buying in bulk and are not selling them. If we buy 1-10 or so trees, we are good.. No worries.
i can get In Touch with Dino for you. If you are on FB he goes by Dino Adenium.. Very nice man.. You can send him a private message there. Tell him that I sent you.. He will send you pictures of trees in leaf of different varieties of Arabicums for sale. If you need help, I will be there for you. He sells using the Thai baht. Once you pay through PayPal it converts for you and you know how much it is . If I remember correctly. 1000 baht is around 32 U.S. Dollars. Let me know... I love enabling. Lol. If you still have a hard time.. I have his email.
Thank you for all of your support and kind comments.. I love these babies!!!

Look's good Laura. It's nice working with "Succulent" type plants, and not worrying about the roots drying out.
I know I've read before that you use Fir bark in your mix, I'm assuming that's the same bark my Squill came in. It look's so much better than my Pine bark. Where do you get it from?
Rob
- 10 years agolast modified: 10 years ago
Hi Rob...
Thank you as always!!! I do enjoy working with these trees too!! It bring me the same excitement as other trees, but I love seeing what is under the leaves.. The naked trees look just as good to me as the leafed out trees.. I love to admire the structure of the tree too... In all forms. ( especially the roots)
The Squill did come with the Fir Bark. I find the local orchid clubs and I will order a few bags from a friend when they are available. You can see that I added a little more Fir Bark ( handful) to the top it off when I finish potting it up in the Gritty Mix. They really like that mix and it has been so easy to get them established in their container. It's all about the mix ... Healthy plants too! Ok ..light , water. Lol.
Check to see if you have any orchids clubs around. Or stores that sell Orchid mix. It's usually always Fir Bark and you can get it in the small size that is perfect for our needs! ;-)
Have a great evening.. It's been a crazy day.. I need to rest, but my body can't..to stressed out from the crazy day. It's time to make myself sleep..
Good Night!!

Laura: I did read through the other adenium posts (and saved them for future reference) and found out about Dino. I checked his FB page too - awesome. I do not do FB myself although I have been tempted to start now and then just for this kind of reason. My target is to first reduce my collection and then add a couple of adeniums by the summer. I will surely get back to you for directions. And thanks for being so helpful.
Interesting practice of using sulphur on root wounds and hanging them for several weeks. I think I lost my first adenium to root rot several years back.
Nomen: I bet you and I are not the only one drooling over these plants. It is an addiction to say the least.
these are exceptionally healthy looking roots..i would say m drooling..congratulations..its definitely a great buy !!
- 10 years agolast modified: 10 years ago
Hi Tropic... I was disappointed when they dropped this Sulphur from the old Root tone. Some Governmenr Agency decided it needed to be eliminated .. So, I found my own Sulphur at the garden store and used it for my own trees. It's a great fungicide and works well with root tone too. When I'm working with certain trees, I'll add Sulphur and root tone together and dip..
For The adeniums , I use straight Sulpur and will make a paste and brush on where it is needed ( sometimes after I cut the rot out to see fresh wood). I'll hang them to dry for a few weeks and them pot up and water around the rim several times and then water normally ...
Thank you Gunjai!!!

No biggie, Laura... we're all busy around the holidays, which is completely understandable... and it seems as though every time we go north visiting, we come back with some type of cold or flu germs, too! And we keep passing them back and forth!
You know you're getting old when you keep Vick's Vap-o-Rub bedside, and get used to drinking tea with honey and molasses to help draw out toxins!
I just can't wait for spring every year, even though we don't get piled with snow like we used to. The cold just cuts into my bones.
Beautiful Adeniums... just gorgeous. I can't wait to see pictures of them blooming!
Been a little busy, myself, fostering two baby goats without mothers. They're a riot, though it's very much like having human babies... up every few hours for bottles, etc... you wouldn't believe how we solved the 'poop stuck in fur' issue at their back ends... we butter them up with a little coconut oil, and everything slides right off into the bedding. :-)
When I saw that post; I went out and bought me some.

After skimming through other threads; today I went out and got -

I think I've hunted down and looked at almost every type of fabric pot now. I've never used one, but I think I like these and the "Geo-pot's".
Rob
Hi Jodi!!!
You certainly made me smile ear to ear when I read your post.. The germs around my family have been passed around since Christmas. It seems having family close by makes those special gifts, keep giving.. ;-)
I can't wait until spring either.. These cold temperatures are getting to be to much for me.. ( whimp here!!) We had about an inch of new snow yesterday and we are expecting the coldest temps of the year today and tomorrow.
Laughing about how Coconut oil can be used for just about anything.. I will add the new tip to my list of " Coconut Oil uses..." Slides right off.. Lolololo. I bet it does. ;-)
Those little baby goats must be precious!! They are just like little babies.. Enjoy !!
Had a few blooms last week!!!
Have a wonderful weekend Everyone!!Enjoy your Valentine!!! <3
It's time for a few pieces of Chocolate.. Yum!!!!!
Laura
Hi Rob!!!Great score!!! I love having the Sulfur around!!
I have never used the fabric pots either. Good Luck!!!

Ooooh my what a beautiful plants you got from Dino ! I have a question Laura what did you needed to import these plants from Thailand to your place ?
greetings Dennis
Quick note -
Finally found some quality Fir bark (1/8"-1/4"). No sap wood, no screening! I bought 9 cubic feet!!

Rob :-) - 10 years agolast modified: 10 years ago
Hi Dennis!!
Thank you for your kind comments!!
I didn't have to have any paperwork when I bought from Dino( Thailand). He had all of the proper ( Phyto) certificates because he is a licensed seller ( nursery ). I didn't buy to many and I'm not reselling them, so nothing was needed on my end here in The USA!!
Hope this helps!!
Rob.. Nice looking Fir Bark Where did you find this if I may?? It's awesome!!

Yes Rob where did you get 9cubic ft of that exceptional bark and at what price?

Laura - Awesome pic!! I don't suppose you took that, did you??
Fir Bark - My Dad teaches a wood carving class one night a week, and a guy who attends used to belong to the Denver Orchid Society. His wife was riding him to clean out their garage, and he had three 3 cu ft bags of this bark. He got a good deal on them because the size was labeled wrong. I got all three for $50.
Sheer luck.
I haven't been around much lately because I'm getting new paint, carpet, and baseboards in my house, so I've been very busy. (Also writing up my plans to build a two level Bonsai bench.)

Isn't it amazing we all get super excited when we get our hands on some good bark? Like kids with new toy.

Hi Rob!!
Lol.. I had to keep making that squirrel stand on that bamboo and put his hands out several times before I got the right shot!! Hahahahaha!! ( good old web pic ). ;-)Rob.. You sure did hit the jackpot with that Fir Bark!!!! Lucky, lucky man!!
Good luck with the new grow bench!! I have seen some really interesting ones built ( Al has some great pictures of his too!) then I have seen some easy methods with cinder blocks and 2x6's .. Two or Three levels that work great!!
I do find it funny that we all get this excited over beautiful Fir Bark. Hehehe! I guess we really know what would make us all very happy on Christmas morning eh?? ;-)
Have a great day everyone!! Stay cool...
laura
Yeah, Rob... Feel free to send me some of that for Christmas... Back to the old reptibark for me!
Yes, I'm super excited. I've had feeler's out all over town (the country for that matter) for almost a year. I wont stop using Pine bark, because of coarse it functions in a very different, and beneficial way, as does Fir bark.
Here's a pic of one of the bags. (Keep in mind; they're mislabeled.) They're marked w/ spray paint to be identified correctly.
(Sequoia Brand 1/8x1/4 Fir Bark fine grade)
The opened bag I have is labeled differently from this one, and there is still one bag at my parent's house.
Al - I'm going to build a Bonsai bench to fit my balcony. 10' long w/ two levels, similar to this one...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sVNzSDLwogA
Laura - No cinder block designs for me. I don't care for that look, plus I don't want that much extra weight on the outer edge of my balcony.
