We have just downsized into our newly-built "retirement" home. Attached are photos of the living room -- I need help designing it in a way that is warm and inviting. I'd like to utilize at least the four recliners -- the sofa is negotiable. The tapestry sofa is excellent quality, but may look too dated. Other than the coffee table, all other tables are miscellaneous antiques -- their use is also negotiable. The rug definitely will go!

I am looking for ideas on whether or not to keep the sofa (and if not, what should replace it?), what type of side tables would be good, and especially how large and what type of rug should be added to pull everything together.

The room has a view of our woods -- to maximize the view and to keep a more streamlined look I'm intending to use the wood blinds only (without adding curtains). Does this sound OK?

The room is approximately 18' X 20' and has an 11' tray ceiling. Walls are painted Sherwin Williams Amazing Gray (SW 7044) and the woodwork is Extra White. Hardwood floors are a light/medium slightly reddish red oak. Because of the woods, as well as the adjoining covered porch, the room can get gloomy -- so I'd like to do what I can to make it as light and bright as possible. However, we also want to keep everything comfortably livable without always having to worry about stains, etc.

We have not begun to think about artwork (haven't unpacked what we have, so I'm not sure whether any of it will be appropriate) -- so I'm interested in hearing suggestions on this as well.
