Yes, go counter height. I actually had cabinets installed for bar height and ended up eating the cost to go back to counter height before ordering the counter. It's really not comfortable seating and will visually reduce the size of the rooms. Will that counter area be clear? Or will there be a sink or stove there? Can you show a photo of the kitchen for more informed input. Generally, I say counter height.

I agree with Darzy. For little kids and older folks, bar height can be really tough. That extra five or six inches is a tough hike for both, and the stools are easier to tip over. And, the additional inches of height "enclose" the kitchen area.

Last two kitchens of mine, I've done counter height. Arranged the "mess" to be out of sight as much as possible.

Counter height is more comfortable to get in and out off.
