I like the first one, it brings in your darker colors better and adds character.

Hmmm, I really like both styles.....though would probably consider at least 1 rug size larger either way.

and, perhaps I'd lean toward rug#1 for a few reasons: 1) it being a wool blend vs. polyester blend. 2) Kinda like the funky zebra print pattern in your space (ties in with the darker color). 3) Your fur baby seems to love it too. ;-)

I can see why you'd like #2 though....looks like it's soft to walk on....plus, like the color and the way the lighting plays off the color/texture, giving it more dimension.

The darker rug seems more appropriate, however, it looks so very flat in the room, and the rug should be larger. Is this the 9x12? The golden shiny rug looks a bit too glammy for the room.

I have lowered the wall decor because it's mounted too high on the wall. Additionally, everything you have selected is rectangular, and all these angles fight one another in the room. I recommend replacing the side table and coffee table with tables in a round shape. Also the overhead lighting is a bit sharp so I recommend adding more table and floor lamps with linen shades for the room.

I like the first one. It seems a better fit.

I like both rugs, but in this specific case I think the zebra one fits better to the space.

Thanks for the input everyone. I wish I would have done this sooner especially since the coffee and end tables were just purchased and for a pretty penny at that. I guess I'll just have to make them work. As for the art work on the wall I do plan to change that to something that would compliment the room better (maybe a colorful painting). Lastly the walls we just painted but I was so stuck on having grey walls that I never stop to think if it would go well with the rest of the furniture. I might have to revaluate the wall paint again but I won't tell hubby that just yet. lol

Between the two, I like the zebra rug. I have to agree with BeverlyFladeziner, if you can wing it, a larger size would be better.

@BeverlyFLADeziner the both rugs are 8 by 10. A larger rug would look better I'll look into how much that would be. Although you can't see it but the stairs are just to the left of the picture. I wonder if a larger rug would be to close to the foot of the stairs.

Post a picture that incorporates more of the room so that this group can better understand your current conditions. Maybe your rug is large enough for the room and simply needs to be repositioned.

Also coming in late to say I like the first one better (sorry!) -- in fact I like it very much. But yes, bigger would be better. I also like your coffee table very much. The room has a safari hint to it (note that I don't approve of real dead animals on the floor!), and as I'm African that speaks to me. What I'm not so sure of (I must complain about something, mustn't I?) is the standing lamp. it seems a bit vin ordinaire to me, compared with the way the room is heading, which is in an interesting direction. I suspect it may give really nice directional lighting at night, though. Does it?

Thanks everyone I would post more pictures but my phone was stolen yesterday so I am having to start all over. I think we will be starting over because neither one of us is happy with each others choice. lol I am african too and I love the safari look but thats not the look I was going for my living room. As for the art on the wall...lol Well it's temporary, at least until we find something we both love.

When looking for art for my home, I like to Art.com. You can select a piece then see it in different types of frames against a background similar to your wall cover. Agree that neither rug really works, though both are nice. I'd go to a larger size and with something that ties into whatever artwork you choose. Great start! I like the gray walls.
