The sofa

Start by buying a large statement rug that mirrors the vibe you are looking for. That rug will form the basis of your pallet of colors to pull from, so chose wisely and with an eye towards a color scheme. You are on the right track with tufted leather. With the overheight ceiling make sure your pieces are large scale otherwise they may get lost. You will need an armoire to complete the look (see example) and a large scale chandelier in dark iron with that same old world vibe. As your windows are contemporary in shape make sure to chose long custom drapery to soften the lines there, and select a rod and finial that go with the look. This is going to be fun! Enjoy.

I love strong pattern and layering patterns as well, but the large scale option at the bottom has a nice muted tone that would be more flexible in your space. Post your finds OK Braz!

You can select fine classic style furnishings for the home without going Olde Worlde Spanish style. That trend was popular about 10 years ago and our consignment shops down here in Florida are filled with stuff that people can't give away, so be careful and purchase classic pieces like the tufted chesterfield sofa that has been in style for the last 200 years.

Beverly would you give an example in pictures which kind of furniture I could get without being off? That's the point. I have no idea. I don't like modern.

I have supplied photos below, but be aware that your home is contemporary and not traditional and doesn't even have traditional detailing to work with classic furniture. There photos below are all interiors from John Saladino and his home in Santa Barbara.

First pic Is my wood bean ceiling. I didn't know those details were modern!

Second pic is the chandelier I bought to replace the fan. What do you think of this chair? Is it good or do you think a no pattern chair would be a better choice to go with the tufted sofa? What about coffee table? Glass or wood?

Love the room! I would keep the main furniture neutral (no pattern) and bring in pattern in the soft furnishings (pillows etc.) that are easy to change out as you go forward. Not a fan of glass coffee tables for this vibe - I'd go with a large scale coffee table in a dark wood. (PS if anyone tells you this is dated just inform them you're going for a boho-chic look and they'll think your cool and on trend!)

Couldn't see the beams in your first few photos. I'm basing my opinion on the design of the kitchen and the details of the windows.

I would think that you are considering a chandelier at least 48" or more in diameter since your existing fan is at least 52". These are from Wayfair

guys whats your suggestion for side tables? should I keep on the same tone of wood or should I add some glam glass? What would work? I am completely okay mixing furniture

I agree, no glass coffee tables. Here are a few options ranging from tribal/boho, to casbah glam, and all the way up to vintage/world traveler inspired. Done right the tables will add to that layered "I picked it up in my travels abroad" look. (I have to say my personal fave are those copper barrels - loooove em)

I would wait on that till you've chosen the area rug. It will be easier to match curtains to the rug etc. than rug to the curtains, if you know what I mean. Leave curtains and wall color to the latter part of selecting your room furnishings. It will be way easier on you. Just make sure they are long and generous to enhance that room height! Likely you will need custom for that reason. And there are 2 ways to go: option 1 to enhance the room with a color hit &/or interesting texture, or option 2 - to simply blend in seamlessly and let the room do all the talking. Good luck Braz!

Rusty changing the subject a little. What should I do with this piece? I know its dated. I have it in my current home in the game room. A lot of designers in another post considered dated. I understand that but what would you do if you have to work with it? You have so many great ideas and I would like to hear it from you even if you say that you would throw it away :D

This piece has good bones and with some creative touches it could be changed up. Let me look around a bit for a couple of options. Are you handy at painting or any DIY? If not, don't worry. There is bound to be a decorative painter/refinisher in your neck of the woods that could copy some ideas. Hey, why not take this pic and start a new thread for input? Make it clear the style you want is "old world but chic" for example. Is that gold scrollwork on the corners metal or just faux gold leaf on wood? This could look good redone in a deep brown closer to the kitchen cabinetry, with the gold bits covered/stained to make less "gold" looking. The stuff on the corners could be carefully removed or covered. It's not a bad piece at all. You could even do a total 180 and silver or copper leaf the entire piece, then antique glaze. Or, have a marble or granite slab put on top. Really, there are a lot of options depending on budget of course. Thoughts?

These are great ideas Rusty. The second furniture from joss is gorgeous! You are always super helpful!! Even that I like that piece I don't think we are going to keep it. I really appreciate you tried to accommodate it on my plans :d I know what I like but I dont have the vision. I will try to follow your advices bc you were the one that got closer to what I envision.

It's an interesting toy to play with but it doesn't give you a very good visual representation of your personal space, just a basic room to plop furniture in. I'm not sure about that furniture selection you have it seems a bit mismatched in style, but you were probably just playing around with the app? I prefer hunting and gathering each piece carefully from various sources the old school way by hitting the pavement with measurements and color swatches in hand! But Houzz as always is an awesome source for inspiration and ideas.

My designer came up with this design to incorporate that traditional piece. What do you guys think?

Its OK. I'm not loving the dated looking TV cabinet, the metal thing on the wall, or the fact that you leather sofa doesn't really tie in with the chairs or the other fabric accessories. I know you talked about old world/Spanish vibe, however this room looks like it's designed for someone older than you (a little too Granny and not enough hip). It's close, but not quite there. Remember the room posted earlier that you liked? That's more reflective of what you need in the space! It needs a bIt more spice and less vanilla.

hehe ok. I understand. At the end it comes up to a taste, I think. I always wanted a designer to get me ideas of furnitures that would work with each other. without being from the same collection. I actually told her I would not use that tv piece but I think she was trying to be nice. I really appreciate the feedback Rusty! I loved the end tables and the chairs. Those pieces I will probably buy it. The sofa I already have. The tv stand not sure if I am going to use yet. I kind like she kept neutral colors. I am always worry on getting crazy with colors. I think this is basically the direction I am going for. Maybe my style is classic at the end lol
