Ken, this seedling came from a handful of soil mix of failed conifers germinations (lots of of failures minus one).

I used the the soil to pot a Terminalia catappa and, after several months of direct exposure to sun and very, very little watering I noticed a small seedling had sprouted. I'm located in São Paulo, Brazil, under the |Tropic of Capricorn, 760 m above the sea level. This seedling came during the worst drought we had here in more than a century and now is taking a lot of rain and hot climate. The only problem it had was during the drought when it was taken by cochineals and I had to spray it with poison.
