Countertop Help

Looking for a granite/quartz alternative to Calacatta Marble. Nearly faitned when I found out the cost was over $200 a sq ft.

What I wanted was this:

What I could afford though is closer to $ 90 a square foot.

My kitchen is white, and I want to keep the counter tops white and bright as well. Looking for something that comes as close to the marble above as possible. White with some grey veining.

Can someone please help?

Pics of my kitchen:

There will also be a 7 foot kitchen bar.

Have you looked at Quartz-much more serviceable and lots of white patterns.

I have but haven't found anything similar to the calacatta (yet). Hoping someone can point something out to me.

I have Hanstone, and I know they have some new classical patterns. A few other companies to check out would be Cambria, Zodiac, Silestone, Caesarstone . Formica FX have a lovely Calcutta rendition but it is a post formed product.

LG's Viatera (Quartz) has three colors that might work for you. Minuet, Aria and Rococo. If you are in the Chicago area we can help you with it.

Have you looked at White Macaubas Crosscut quartzite? There is also Calacatta quartzite. They are somewhat comparable and will give you the depth and dimension of a natural stone.

Thanks for the info. Checked many of these out last night.
One of my concerns is how white they are. I need something that's very white, no gold veining. A cool white I guess otherwise it's going to look dingy/faded with the rest of my kitchen.

well, take a cabinet drawer with you and go see them in person. most of these are made to satisfy the hunger for white marble, so I suspect something will fit the bill.

Have you looked at DuPont Zodiaq?

    Especially Calacatta Natura?

Went to Probuild this Saturday and looked at the ones they had.
I saw LG, Cambria, DuPont and Hanstone Torquay.

Between all of the above, the whitest was Cambria Britannica.
But Cambira Ella had my favorite veining, it was much more subtle.

Hanstone Torquay wasn't nearly as white as Britannica, or even Ella but it was very pretty. I didn't get a chance to see a sample of the Hanstone Tranquility.

Here's a pic of Cambria Britannica, Cambira Ella and LG Minuet side by side. The white door above (top middle) is my cabinet color. Only Britannica was white enough. The others look dingy when you compare them to my cabinets.

Has anyone seem MS Internationals Quartz? Specifically the Cashmere Carrara, or their Calacatta Vincenza?

They're in Edison, NJ- less than an hour away. Just not sure if it's worth the trip.

I had white counters in my previous kitchen. I could see every. single. drop. and. crumb. I like the middle one. Nothing wrong with grey counters on white cabinets. Looks richer and more interesting.

Looking at the marble you show in your first picture, it is not bright white, either.

Ellie, you can try Cambria's Quartz in Torquay. You can view the whole slab in their showroom.

    Where are you located?

My island is not going to be white, more of a grey with brown tones. I wanted to keep the counter tops the same to bring it together and because my kitchen is open to the living area (the the island separating the two) so the colors need to work. The grey of the Ella will look out of the place with the colors of the living room.

I just installed the Dupont Calacutta Natura - it is beautiful. Most people mistake it for the real thing, yet it doesn't stain or etch. I compared a slab of the marble to the Dupont - side by side - before I bought. It is fabulous! I needed the grays/brownish tones in the Calacutta and this works perfectly. It is on the 4 x 6 island paired it with Cambria Devon on the perimeter (to save a bit of $$). Devon is a great gray.

beseaside I saw Dupont but not their Zodiac line. They only had Coria? (can't remember the exact name) samples and I didn't care for them. Wanted to see the Calacutta but I can't find it anywhere around me. Do you have a picture?

Ellie - there is a photo above from Fabricators Unlimited. I'll post a photo is about an hour. Son just cooked dinner - gotta eat.

There are already lots of great comments and advice above. I would also say Quartz is your best bet. We just did a Quartz counter in a kitchen remodel and it looks great. We went with a darker gray quartz - almost looks like concrete - to contrast with bright white cabinets.

You can also look at Polarstone - they have several very good quartzes that look like marble. http://www.polarstoneus.com/quartz-collection/ They have several distributors in NJ: www.dentetrading.com

beseaside Thank you for the pics. Your kitchen is gorgy! I have to check it out now.
Am going to check how far the above places are from me. Won't hurt to see Polaris as well.

Have you looked at the Italian made thin slab porcelains available in the US? They are stunning. Lots of pics on Houzz.

Ellie, I can't help you with names of stone (I have leathered black granite) but Stone by Vincenzo in Jefferson NJ beat every price I found. Our original granite guy didn't believe our quote from them & wanted to see it in writing (when we asked him to meet that price). Everyone there was helpful & friendly. Rt 15 North. It might be worth a phone call.

WOW- Has this been an eye opener in terms of pricing.

I decided on Cambria in Brittanica for my kitchen countertops which are going to match my cabinets perfectly, and Cambria in Ella for my kitchen island/bar which will be in appaloosa (pic below).

Ella is a little grayer and worked beautifully with the island. You also can't really see the difference in color between Brittanica and Ella when they're not side by side.

Pricing was all over the place. I checked with 4 different stores and it ranged from 74 per sq foot, to 103 per sq foot. Lowe's also has it but you need to ask (it's not on display ) but they never got back to me with pricing.
While I want to support the local smaller tile stores, the difference in pricing is just too great, so I went with Pro-build at $74sq foot.

Going this weekend to pic it out.

Thanks everyone for your help, you guys are great!!

    Hi beseaside

Your kitchen is gorgeous! I am considering the Zodiaq Calacutta but haven't been able to see a full slab. Wondering how much of the veins come across brown or is it more gray. I can't really tell on your pics and my sample is very small. Considering this for my island which is 5x9. What color is your island? Our color is BM cinder from IKEA but we have a lot of distressed wood finishes in our new home so thought this counter would play off well in a more rustic setting. Also, is the finish very shiny? Very white? Greatly appreciate your thoughts.

We have a Calacatta Natura island in our showroom. The grey veins almost have an additional vein of brown.

Beseaside, I am likely going with Zodiaq Calcutta, do you remember what they charged by the sq ft? Thank you!

Oh wow. A year ago it was brand new and very hard to get. I think it was around $100 per sf. It should be coming down in price now. By the way, I still love it and get massive compliments.
