Sealant isn't a topical surface coating. That would must peel off. It penetrates into the stone pores so that stains can't. It provides zero shine. It's the polished surface of the stone itself that shines. Spot polishing will always show. Your average local fabricator isn't going to get it to the same sheen without a blend area telegraphing through. IF it's an actual scratch. Almost nothing actually scratches UbaTuba though. It's just too hard. Lots of times metal deposits or other deposits on the surface of the stone can resemble scratches. A little Soft Scrub and they go away though.

That does look like a scratch to me, however, surface polishing dark granite can end up causing a larger problem than just the original scratch. I wouldn't trust just any fabricator to do it. It's impossible for hand tools to match factory polish, so the area that gets polished will actually be duller than the rest of the slab. The fabricator needs to polish a large area to feather out the polish, so that it's not noticeable to the naked eye. You don't notice that the countertop edges aren't as polished as the surface because they're on two different planes.

I guess that I should just move on and accept that this is a natural part of my granite. The counters are beautiful and you can only see the lines when the sunlight hits them. Then they are really obvious. I would hate to have them attempt to polish the granite only to make it look worse.

I just had granite countertops installed yesterday. I tried to reset my breadbox (which wouldn’t fit as the installers used several shims.). In trying to work it into place I and created a large number of very fine scratches on the finish. Any way to repair?

They need to be buffed out, it's not a big deal. You can call the same people who installed your countertops, it will take a minute for them to buff this out. You might get charged for a service call or you might not.
