Agree with pcmom, benches are uncomfortable and more appropriate for breakfast nooks. I would mix and match chairs to satisfy your eclectic style. Maybe 4-6 metal or lucite chairs for the sides and 2 upholstered ones for the head and foot?

How modern is your "modern eclectic" taste? With a different light fixture, you could mix in some Eames chairs, which would definitely be eclectic...

I'm assuming you're changing the light fixture? Any thoughts on what you want it to be?

Pcmom1 the bench would not be backless, I agree that would be uncomfortable for sure! I get concerned with mixing too many wood finishes, the table is already different than the floor and don't want the finish on the chairs to be different as well as I want to make sure it's all brought together. Where did you find the chairs on your first image?

Amanda Honecker that is what I initially had in mind, upholstered chairs for the head and foot for sure. But it's the ones for the sides that I'm having trouble with as I want it to look eclectic but still cohesive, will look into the lucite chairs.

I figured I would get the dining table and chairs squared away first and then choose the lighting fixture.

jemmis, nothing you have chosen has a relationship. Why would you do Brazilian cherry for the floors and then go to a very brown finish on the table? You must have had a vision for your chairs when you chose these wood tones? Your chairs need to relate to the table and then make the floors the odd man out. I believe upholstered chairs would minimize the difference between flooring and table.

Karen I noted the table looks like a very brown finish in the picture but it's actually a grey finish, I don't love it now that I've received it but have to make it work. The light fixture and artwork are not permanent but table and floors are, I'm thinking upholstered for the head and foot. At this point I have the floors's finish and table's not looking to mix more wood finishes, as I've seen/heard can become too chaotic.

Why don't you use some upholstered parsons chairs? The will be comfortable and add color to the room.

Bud04 with kiddos I'm afraid it's not too practical, now I'm concerned that if I choose a set for the head and foot and others for the sides there'll be too many wood finishes going on. Unless I do a white finish for the sides, but would it be too country for the style of table.

Oops I wasn't finished....The chairs with skirts that have stain protection. I have them around my breakfast table and people love them. They would add some color to your room. What colors are your other rooms?

jemis, since your table actually has a gray tone, that's a plus. I would definitely find chairs that are upholstered and would attempt to get legs more gray toward your table. Actually, you could go with an upholstery in a gray tone that coordinates with your wood tones
