Brief tutorial on using and maintaining an Air Compressor

last modified: 10 years ago

So I Received a brand new Husky 3 gallon air compressor a few years back
and finally took it out of the box today to use to blow out some air
filters and the such. Following the directions for setup I believe I did
everything right, but I guess growing up using my Dads I never really
did anything other than turn it on and switch out the "adapter" for what
was ever appropriate for the job. So I'm hoping someone can give a
quick run down about things to remember when using one. As I went to use
it tonight the instructions told me to set the pressure before starting
it, which didn't seem like that was something I could do before turning
the thing on. It also mentioned to not get the pressure higher than the
20-30 psi range using the inflation and cleaning accessories that came
with the unit. I stayed in this range (eventhough I didn't know which of
the two gauges right next to each other to look at) however it really
didn't seem to be enough pressure worthy of really cleaning the
filters. Does this range seem low? Is it cause it comes with a crappy
plastic hose that the pressure can't be that great, but you'd sure think
out of the box you'd atleast be able to clean some air filters!

What
else do I need to know about proper procedure when done with use?
Drain/bleed the tank? How often do I need to change/add oil? The oil
definitely got some dirtyness to it after use comparing it to what it
looked like before I started using it through the side viewing glass,
etc.

Any other advice? Anything would be great as I
know it's a small tank but dealing with "pressure" like that makes me a
bit nervous.
