We live in South Florida, no need for the warmth that carped would bring. Having second home with all wood, so easy to clean!

I prefer carpet in the bedrooms. When I first wake up, I like walking on carpet softness, but the main reason is for better acoustics. There's a cozy ambience that carpet acoustics give to a room. We're in S. FL so the rest of our house is tile, and the change in sound is very noticeable when we walk into the bedroom, from the tile hallway. I've had a few people comment on it, because they couldn't believe the difference was so pronounced.

My family's allergies means the 60% carpet in this rental house means we are on year round antihistamines...If it were up to me, I would use a solid surface (not tile) throughout a home. Can't stand carpet...but then again I don't own.

I prefer carpet for the warmth, and hardwood because of allergies. When we converted our most of our house to hardwood, my son's allergy-induced asthma virtually disappeared overnight. It was amazing (and frankly, disgusting) to see how much dust and hair were under the carpets, never reached by the vacuum.

Hardwoods. You can always add an area rug. Wall to wall carpet, its just not my cup of tea.
