Penn Marshall Stone House blog.

My parents bought the place in 1971 when I was 3 years old. I grew up in this house. My parents had a vision and a dream for this place. They worked hard on the house with some help from my grandfather and we boys did what we could. Life however has a way of changing ones plans.

My mom passed away in 1983. My brother moved out and went to college and a few years later I did the same. Now, 30 years later, I am looking to move back in.

Dad built a smaller craftsman style home on the farm and moved out of the old stone house. Now I am currently in the middle of some major renovations on the old home place.

I started a blog about the house back in October of 2014 and thought I would share it here. The blog tells a bit of known history about the place. There are entries down the left side starting back in 2014. It will follow along with current work that is being done as well as go back to work that was done in the past.

Thanks.

Okay, I see what you are saying. One of my first blogs, little experience here. Had to learn how to use it as I was writing it.

    Thanks for the tip.

I will look into categorizing these entries.

I'm going to have to read up some on blogs. While I do have construction/carpentry, renovation and architectural experience, I don't know much about blogs. All I do know about them is just from starting one and learning as I go.

I think I am going to have to learn a bit more and figure out the pages and categories. When I added the categories it didn't let me add them to each entry as I expected. it added them all to every entry under archives. Like the categories pertained to all archives, they were all linked as one. Would not let me separate each entry out under different categories.

I will look to reorganize the blog, learn a bit more about it. The way I have set it up apparently is not quite right. Entries are there but all under the same page or archive or something.

    Thanks.

You can create categories, then assign posts to them. The software will do the rest.

One post can be in multiple categories, so a kitchen floor renovation where you find a Civil war body under the floorboards would be in Renovation, floors, kitchen, history and crime.

Wordpress has parent and child categories:

Renovation parent with subcategories for Kitchen, living room or whatever. Or floors, ceilings and walls and stairs.

History could have child categories for original owner, next owner, etc.

Landscaping can have subcategories for "perennials", trees" etc.

    here's two tutorials:

I believe I have it figured out.

When I first added my categories it put every post I had in every category. I don't know why, but they were all in all the categories. Where I was in edit while I added the categories maybe, I don't know. I clicked them all off and now I believe I can add more and organize them.

    Thank you.

Categories added and posts categorized. I may give them further thought and they may change but I got it.

Thanks so much for your tips and help.

Thank you powermuffin. I want to see the finished kitchen too!

I haven't been able to work on the house much for the last few weeks. Got sick for one of them, then the Holidays had things going on. I hadn't been sick in years and it hit me the week of Christmas. I have been cutting wood and working on fences and feed troughs for cattle. Getting back to the house now.

We are currently living in town and ready to move back to the old home place.

Blog updated with a few entries. Been working on the corn crib/wood shed some and building a chicken run for the chickens. Did get a bit done on the house. Will be white washing the kitchen walls soon.

    Thanks for stopping by.

The house is also on Facebook. I didn't create the Facebook page, just stumbled across it. I have added some updates to the page.

Siding is going up, hope to add to blog soon. Mostly a one man show right now so work is slow. Have to keep my head clear and my thoughts positive. It can be overwhelming. My son did come home and help me for several days with the siding.
