That's a beautiful kitchen! My suggestion would be either cellular shades or shutters. Both provide a nice clean look but have their own unique advantages. A shutter provides a very clean look and would go great with your white woodwork. However they do take up a lot of window room as they include framing.

A cellular shade is very functional for privacy and light control. They also stack up into a very small space when they are completely open. They are great for really letting light in.

Consider bi-directional roman shades.

For your family room, you could use shutters as suggested, but I love the way fabric warms up a room and softens the hard edges. I cannot see how much room you have above your window, I would suggest you use panels with a pretty rod. Panels can be functional or stationary. I would suggest a patterened fabric with several colors and soft or bold which ever is your style. I would also use pop of color on your sofa in the way of pillows and a throw. Changing those out would me much less expensive and can be done easily with the seasons.

For your kitchen I would do some kind of top treatment. I would suggest hanging it at or just below your cabinets. That way the fabric is covering the wall and not your window but will keep your eye going up and make the window appear much larger than it is. If you need privicy or sun control a Roman Shade or blind would look nice under a top treatment.

Your kitchen is gorgeous! If privacy is not an issue I would do sweet, white cafe curtains on rings, or bottom only white wood shutters. They can both be opened for light. If you use any kind of blind for privacy I would go with white pleated blinds that are covered when open....a nice fabric topper.
