Framed opening...

I would assume this opening, framed in reclaimed timber (beautiful!), is a load bearing wall, yes? We are planning a kitchen remodel and are trying to decide to create a pass-through island/counter UNTIL I came across this idea -- I'm interested in your thoughts comparing pass through vs. framing out the space like you did here...

Thank you for your inquiry! Yes, this is a load bearing wall. This architectural detail helped define the two areas; kitchen and living room while still keeping it open. It's a great detail to help finish an opening without closing in the entire area. If you have the room to create an opening versus a pass-through; why not do it? Good luck with your project!

Do you install beams before the flooring was installed or on top of existing flooring? Love this look!
