i am planning on painting my oak Kitchen, I will be keeping the cupboards and layout the same. I would like a 2 toned look, darker on bottom (grey) and white on top. opinions on having island, lower cabinets and corner pantry/oven section the grey and just uppers on other side white. thinking of wood countertop on island and open shelving back by the refrigerator. I am also planning on putting in stainless steel appliances.The rest of my house is fairly neutral, walls in a taupe color and my style would be modern farmhouse. (excuse cereal boxes on fridge, forgot to remove before picturing)

Take a look at the kitchen we remodeled below. The cabinets are oak, although we did change the doors and drawers to a shaker style (the before picture is in the project folder as well). Know that when you paint oak, you will see the open wood cells through the finish - the sheen will reflect the oak wood grain everywhere the light bounces off. If you or someone in your home is an engineer or accountant, that may bug them.... Test dive on a door from Habitat or a garage sale before jumping in if you have any concerns. Good luck - Robert

Oh no....your cabinets are beautiful! I am not a fan of the two-tone cabinets, but if you like the look you could keep the oak cabinets and paint just the island. The two-two, gray and white cabinets are are trend...do not succumb to it!

It is refreshing to see someone with a more traditional kitchen.

If tired of the oak, consider deepening the stain and painting your island.
