The fabric is nice. I think it doesn't look finished because the pole should run the entire length of the window, even with panels just on the ends. You could also add fabric to run into the corners, so the panels don't look so skimpy. Then you could add drapes to the other door if you wanted to, but I don't think you would need to.

Really like all the natural light in this room.

One undervalued solution is vertical vinyl blinds that come in a variety of colors and control light in multiple ways. They create a clean modern look that, unlike fabric drapes, don't absorb smells and are easily dusted. They can be used for windows, too, and are especially good for larger windows or windows that open by sliding to the side. I'd use them on the patio doors and on all the windows in this room.

Before I downsized to a smaller home without patio doors, I had them on three patio doors and two den windows and one kitchen window -- still have them in my kitchen (slide windows).

I actually hate this thing of hanging some skimpy panels that could not possibly cover the windows on little rods I think if you are going to hang drapes they should be full and able to close and still look full you could do the same drapes on both sliding doors and roman shades in the same fabric on the windows and please no 1980’s vinyl vertical blinds they are hideous. You have lots of space for drapery stack back on both sliders so drapes can be opened all the way for light.

Another option is putting the patio doors behind louvered bi-fold closet doors.

Drapes are a great classic look for a formal living room -- a look that comes with dry cleaning bills.

For a more modern great room with modern kitchen appliances and more modern and/or contemporary furnishings in the dining and living area, less formal and what makes your living in it easier is the way to go.

If you choose drapes, know that the fad of having the drapes drag on the floor is a really sloppy look and a pain in the back to vac around.

I actually have drapes that puddle I think that is really decided by the decor as for cleaning once every couple of years is probably good and to use louvered doors and cut out 1/2 the light makes no sense.

Sliding doors, I would recommend sliding panels!
