How about putting the crib in the middle of the room?

Kaylee, that's actually what our designer suggested before the crib came in and that was our plan- to center it under the chandelier. Now that we actually have the crib, though, when we put it under the chandelier, the solid upholstered sides block the view of the rest of the room and you don't appreciate the pretty lines on the crib at all. Such a bummer!

I might play with that option one more time once the room is painted, though.

I dont think its too cramped in #1. Crib looks much better against wall.

I like the crib in option 2. I don't think it will hide the pillows. If anything, it will draw attention to them (my eyes usually gravitate towards the crib). Have you considered moving the dresser to the adjoining wall? The only thing I'm not crazy about is the angled bookshelf (though I don't know a better spot for it). The room is beautiful!

Thanks, er612. I hadn't considered moving the dresser but I hadn't given it much thought yet. That mirror came with the house (literally left hanging on the wall like that), so I just stuck the dresser under it for now. That's a good idea to move it if I float the crib.

Yes, bookshelf was ordered to go flush against the wall with the possibility of ordering a second one to go on the opposite side of the same window. Glad I didn't order 2 because it just looked wrong shoved flush into the corner. Angled was the only way to put it.

I like option 2! It draws your eyes to the crib and chandelier! Also, move the dresser to where the crib is in photo 1. Not sure if the bookcase is a good fit for the room! It looks awkward!

Put something colorful on the ceiling over the changing table that will attract the babies attention and encourage laying still on back.

What if you put the bookshelf against the non-window adjoining wall? They usually get cluttered with books and toys, which would definitely take away from the pillow and window fabrics.

er612-- My mother suggested that as well. We tried it and may still do it when the bookshelf fills with cluttered objects. Right now when I do that, you only ever see the side of it, so it is a sort of odd extension of that alcove wall. I had to put a bookcase in the room purely from a practical perspective, but I swear the room was not designed for actual furniture! lol!

What about wall mounted shelving? You could put one large shelf behind the sofa. Here are some options (all available in white)…

Idk why but I love it this way it might take up room but looks like u have plenty of room to spare it looks so grand in that spot to me all the choices look good though !

Thanks so much er612-- I have looked at all of those shelving units (I love those RH ones that look like little houses!) and will probably still use one for books in that empty space. I am having an Hermes scarf framed right now and once it is ready, I want to see how much space it needs and where it should go. I know the technical measurements, but I need to see whether it will need that entire empty wall or can go above sofa or dresser.

I like the drama of option #2 but not the practicality. Baby will not sleep as well due to light from the window -- and potentially noise.

What about putting the crib in the alcove where the sofa is now? Do you need that sofa? It is nice to have a bed in the nursery, so you can nurse laying down - and doze off. I found a bed to be much more useful than a rocking chair.

You could also consider putting the changing table under the alcove, then decorating the alcove ceiling in something that will interest baby. Then keep crib where you have it in option #1. I don't know where the sofa would go then...

Light is definitely a concern with crib in option 2 and just in general with these arched windows. The new window treatments (being made) are supposed to take care of that...I have heard conflicting things from parents about whether babies truly need total darkness to sleep. Some say it helps tremendously and others say if baby is never used to a totally dark room, then they adapt. Noise is no problem where we live.

I would love to put crib in alcove, but sofa is staying in the room. We already have it and it's supposed to be used for me napping and nursing (like a bed). It's also slipcovered in linen and easily washable. I figure I'll wait and see if I need a rocker/glider. They are quite expensive and seem very uni-tasker to me once baby gets past a certain age. But I suppose so much baby stuff is used for a limited time!

I do have a precious little mobile that will hang from the ceiling above wherever the changing table ends up. I've had several people mention that about baby needing something to distract. So much to learn!

What a beautiful room! You're lucky to have TOO many options. I like the crib in option #1. I also like the formality of the room; the mirror, the chandelier. Gorgeous. Once the baby comes, you'll see what works the best and if it doesn't work, you can always change it. Good luck and have fun getting ready.

Option 1. And yes, bookshelf flush against the wall and please don't forget to anchor it to the wall.
