I would recommend pendants that are in the 10"-12" diameter range. Check these out:Endacott Lighting - Pendants You can filter by style and color.

When my Clients have a tough time making choices early on I try to design in a little flexibility. I would have the Electrician burry 2 Tails ( potential light locations ) behind the Sheetrock to take the pressure off. Now your Contractor is not held up. Now you can wait till your Rocked so you can get a better feeling about the room, or make cardboard templates and hang them. Sometimes we spray paint the templates to get a more accurate visual.

I would go with two nice sized pendants. Three over this size island is too much, IMO. With 10' ceilings in an open concept, you could easily do the 10" - 12".

Here's one we did recently. The first pendants the homeowner selected were huge and even though this is a good sized room, were overpowering. She returned them and we ended up with these.
