Shiloh Cabinets?

I'm helping GF redo her kitchen and we're starting to look at cabinets pricing wise, quality wise, etc. She is on a budget so she's not looking at super high end, but she has a smaller kitchen so custom vs. semi-custom may be important function wise.

We just spent some time with a local firm that sells Shiloh and wondering if anyone has any familiarity and whether they are decent or not.

TIA!

Shiloh was quite a nice cabinet, a few years ago when I was looking.

Shiloh has really nice finishes but they're not budget. I got a quote from a KD who told me that Shiloh would be more expensive than his custom guy. I wanted 15"D uppers and 27"D lowers so the up charge by Shiloh blew it past the $45K that the custom guy quoted.

Be frank about the budget and size of kitchen with the KDs do that you don't waste time for both parties.

I have Shiloh, primarily because I wanted inset and there was no upcharge. Found pricing to be very reasonable (mid-range) and am happy with the quality. I researched cabs ad nauseum, met with 7 different KD's that carried Shiloh; all agreed Shiloh was the best value.

If I were to do it over, I would still choose Shiloh but would probably travel out of state (seriously) to use Kompy/The Kitchen Place to design; she really is a Shiloh expert.

I have a small kitchen and my cabs were less than 10K; bases all drawers except for trash bin, and 2 tall cabs that sit on the counter (my splurge).

Thanks for your inputs. It's much appreciated. We're going to look at custom guys this week too. I'll be interested to see how they compare with the pricing. One thing I know is shiloh is a $60/cab up charge for full extension drawers where the custom guys already include that.

Any cabinet line that makes you upgrade your way into true mid grade specs isn't really a solid mid grade line. They are a weird mix of lower mid grade specs with upper mid grade styling ''looks''. Don't care for their wide gaps in inset, but it checks that ''looks'' box for those who are OK with price being their most important criteria, if you need standard sizes. Their customizations are a higher than average upcharge. The biggest thing that they have going for them is their finishes. You're not getting a high quality factory finish with a local custom guy. You might mot even be getting your idea of ''custom''. A lot of local guys are parts assemblers from different sources for boxes, doors, drawers, and don't make anything and can never duplicate the finish that a factory can give.

My Shiloh drawers are full extension and there was no upcharge.

I also do not have "wide gaps."

Love my Shiloh inset cabinets. They are two years old.

I put Shiloh inset in a kitchen I did last year. They were quite nice and I will certainly consider choosing them again for a future remodel.

Just remembered, Shiloh has a less expensive version called Aspect; for those full extension was an upcharge.

I really appreciate everyone's input. I'm sure this will help us decide what works best for her.

    Thanks Tmy_jax and Mdln,

My comments on Mdln's link still stand with regards to Shiloh.

There have been some drawer changes to Shiloh the last year. They use to have two choices for drawer boxes. One was a dovetailed plywood and an upgraded drawer box. The plywood dovetailed box was discontinued. I was really happy about that. They were fine as a budget choice then...but people really prefer hardwood. As of last year, all 3 Shiloh lines (Shiloh, Aspect Budget and Eclipse Frameless) have the exact same 5/8" hardwood drawer standard. And an optional upgrade to 3/4" hardwood drawer. With inset, Blum full extension guides are standard.

Every cabinet line has their niche. In my opinion, Shiloh's niche is for inset standard cabinets for the mid to upper-mid range customer. CLICK HERE FOR SHILOH BROCHURE
