Depends on what your families needs are. There is a theory called universal design, that keeps in mind elderly and disabled when designing. This is important for selling also. my most important decision in this is comfort, how do they feel when you pull them, some fancy looking are hollowed out underneath, so not as comfortable, so that should also be a consideration, at least on ones you use all the time.

You can do either/or or both, but I agree with Susan about open ended pulls on drawers. I've ripped too many pants, at the pocket, because of open endedpulls in my old place.

I like this kind of pull -- just make sure it is one that is wide enough to be comfortable to use.

My advice for painted cabinets is to have a face on back of any pull or knob so rings and knuckles do not damage paint over time. Lesson learned by me.
