no idea what to do with the space

Looking at buying a new house that has an odd front entrance. You enter into a very small foyer type area that goes straight into the formal dining room with the kitchen to the right and the family room to the left. You would have to walk through the dining room constantly to move around the house. Need ideas to make this area something different so that I can talk my husband into buying this house!!! The main wall is the wall to the staircase to the basement. I will take a picture when we re-look at the house tomorrow.

This is a picture of the dining room looking toward the kitchen. The slightly open door goes straight into the kitchen. the other door goes into the entrance of the staircase with a second doorway into the kitchen as well. We do not really need a formal dining room as the kitchen is large enough for a large table. I will post a picture of the entrance tomorrow after viewing the house again,

I hope the house has some other good features about it. Reading these dilemmas here often makes me wonder why people buy the houses that they do when there seems to be some serious flaw that they can't tolerate. Maybe that's why hubby doesn't want to buy it. That is a strange issue. Why can't you see the stairs from the entry? That bi-fold door to the kitchen seems quite unusual.

Open doorways as much as possible. If doors aren't needed, take them off.

Classysass I would like to make the wall a half wall to expose the stairway and take the wall between the two doors out as well. Just not sure we can do it with weight bearing walls. Here is a picture of the other side of the wall with the bifold door

Wow! That's a beautiful kitchen. I see now why you love it. Thanks for showing me. Can you make that dining room into a large, elegant foyer? It looks like the kitchen size might be in proportion for that to be a possibility. You could find someone knowledgeable to see if that remodel makes sense. Good luck.
