or add some layered dimensions... add 2 smaller flanking one side and a long thin version on opposite side and perhaps 3 small versions along the top creating a textured affect with out filling it, making it seem like a wall... nice choice of frames! :-)

While it looks small when viewed face on, given the size of the room, I think that it is an appropriate size.

Large art - such as a large canvas instead of so much matting would make your room look larger. If you walk around the house, I bet you'd find a spot you could still use this!

Thanks, I have to keep the large art behind the sofa. I think putting the other 2 beside will be way too large. It is a very small room and i think it just needs something small on either side. Could i do narrow candle sconces or small shelf with something on them.? Also thoughts on the 2 stacked pieces, too high, spaced further apart.? Also think the large piece should go a couple inches higher? agree? Also any thoughts on ottoman bench in animal print? Thanks

I think the picture behind the sofa is hung too low. Move it up about 4" and see if that solves the problem.

Mathematically and following rules.....and not even sure who makes them.....the suggestion is art is at least 3/4 the length of what it hangs over. Going by that, the art is too small, BUT I have looked at all your pics more than once, and I am not offended by the size over the couch right now. Not crazy about adding things beside it, either. So my suggestion? The lamp seems short. Try putting it on a book or two....and again, I might be off on the height, but lots of times, a lamp or two can fill in the wall space and then it is all balanced just right.

Next.....I like stacked art distance to be the same width as the frames being used. You are thissssssss close to that and not sure it would be worth it to put another hole in the wall.

Not in your question, but if you ever find a throw with some gray in it, I would love to see it draped on the couch!!! And for some reason, when I see two matching pillows and only two......HOTEL comes to my mind. Sorry, as that sounds so awful, but do you have another place for one of the pillows there? On a chair maybe? And then a different one for the couch? Odd numbers work best for that sort of stuff, too. Again....more math and more rules. LOL

Also agree with pillow suggestion, but waiting to see what pattern i end up with for ottoman. Any thoughts on ottoman/bench pattern? was thinking zebra or leopard print. Zebra in either dark brown or charcoal wide striped pattern. Or i saw a long bench from ballard in a grey/charcoal leopard print. Or is that too much animal stuff in the room. Maybe a geometric charcoal or black and white pattern. Thanks for the help

How many inches is the art right now over the couch? Just do not want it flying and 6-8 inches....you knew I would have more math......is the best suggestion for art over a couch. Where are you now with that??????? I would rather it was left if it is close than have it soooooo high. 3-4 inches can be a lot with art. And then it might really throw off lamp proportions, too. Measure and post what it is now, ok?

Brown/zebra catches my attention the most with the ottoman. Any other furniture in this space to consider?

See new photos, only other piece i am needing is a bench/ottoman or 2 small ottomans. the back wall is the the entertainment unit in dark chocolate/walnut. Need a lamp on other end table which is black. art over sofa is currently approx 4 inches above top of cushion

I wonder what would happen if you re-matted the picture. If the mat were lighter, would the art seem larger? I think the dark frame and the dark mat combine to emphasize the small size of the artwork in spite of your generously sized frame. Maybe someone can use a bit of Photoshop genius to let us see if that's a change worth making?

I also agree with others - to serve as a focal point, the picture should be hung higher.

I agree with missflomike. The art size doesn't bother my eye but a slight height adjustment would probably appease the imbalance you're feeling in the room.

I did just have it re-matted as you see it. It previously was a brown frame/matt and much smaller. I really wanted to use the print - as the colors in it popped over the sofa and only room it could use it in.(it was an original print and worth re-framing) I had it re-matted and framed as large as i thought i could go without losing the picture and did it in charcoal to coordinate with the other 2 animal prints i already had - and also to match the color tones of the room - (grey walls, grey laminante flooring) So i believe moving it up 2-3 inches might help alot and maybe taller lamps as suggested earlier

I completely agree that if you just move the picture up a bit it will look balanced. I think you've done a nice job with the room.

I think you may be on the right track with shelving on each side.I would suggest small black floating ( modern look) shelving. I would hang one high on one side and one low on the other so as not to look too matchy. Not sure about the sconces. Or perhaps two thin similarly framed additional prints. I vote for Zebra print ottoman in the charcoal and yes, hang the large piece up a few inches. Lovely place...

I say try 3 inches at the most to raise the art and before buying lamps, either switch with a taller one at home or raise it up on books and we can see how it all appears then.

Two smaller ottomans might be good as then one could even be used for extra seating, if necessary????
