how about a color? not bright... you can go with a greyed blue or mossy green, bring pillows in that carry the color across the room.

not pottery barn, and not RH, they only have the shades called 'mud' "dull" and "grim". find a smaller chain in your area. in boston we have boston interiors and circle furniture, that have thousands of fabrics to choose from. ask when they will have a sale, we bought 2 loveseats when Boston Interiors was having a 'custom for the same price as standard' sale.

i know that crate and barrel also has a lot of fabrics to choose from.

oh, and i think your pictures are lovely, esp the first one.

Thank you so much ladies!!! I'm sold on the greyed blue sofa, I'll look for it locally, we are in Northern Virginia and have a Bassett store relatively close to us, I've heard they have many different fabrics to chose from so hopefully we can find something we like.

We have this sort of long, not too narrow rectangular living room (perks of living in a townhouse) no TV, no fireplace. So far I've decided to place the sofa (grey/blue) against the wall to the side of the main window, the two chairs (soft beige) to the left of the sofa, against the window wall with a ceramic side coffee table (prob. white) in between, and a tufted grey/blue bench to the right of the sofa (this bench will float in the room, (meaning it will not be against a wall) since we have a console table displaying pictures and a large mirror placed on the wall facing the main windows, I will use the coffee table I already have (see pic) do you think this color/layout combination will work? Thanks again!, I'm attaching a picture of the living room, I only have the realtor pictures for now but I think this will give you an idea. We will paint the walls light gray and will install medium brown hardwood floors soon, that handrail next to the main door will be removed too.

Just FYI - I had a Bassett sofa and loved it but had to sell it to my cousin because it was too big for my new place. Now her family is loving it too. My sister just bought a Pottery Barn sofa and while she likes it she has had some second thoughts after living with it for awhile. Personally I don't like the PB sofa because the stuffing they used on the back cushions is so soft that when I put my arm along the back it just sinks in as if they were feather pillows instead of cushions. I just don't see them holding their shape for more than a year or so as soft as they are. In fact it's only been a few months and you can already see the stuffing is pooling at the bottom.

Like the ideas you've come up with and the color scheme of gray blue with the soft beige and cream. You should be able to find that color through lots of different sources. Maybe even the same place you purchased your chairs? Btw, sorry if I missed it....but where did you purchase your chairs? It could give us a better idea of (similar other) places you'd like to shop for a sofa.

So, just some suggestions.....take a look at Mitchell Gold. They offer some very nice contemporary and transitional styles that I think you'll like.....with several fabric selections. Any of their sofas can be ordered in one of their blue gray fabrics (not just what's shown as their pre-selected stock choices)....or you can also order COM. We own some of their pieces and for their price point they offer great quality and really good customer service.

Williams Sonoma also offers great quality for their price range, has some great styles and a very nice fabric program.

Only concern about WS Home though is I don't believe they have very many retail stores where you can actually see-sit on their sofas. Just something to consider.....

With smaller children, consider a leather sofa something along these lines. This is a Bassett sofa. Then add color with an area rug/throw pillows and accessories.

I will look into all these recommendations. We would love a leather sofa but we have an old cat with bad habita (love scratching leather surfaces). Thanks again!!!

I agree with the comment to maybe try leather. It is really good for households with pets or kids. Just make sure you sit on actual sofa you are buying. I made mistake of ordering sofa and chair after sitting on what I was told was similar couch at Boston Interiors. Now regret purchase because it is way too low for us and it was custom ordered in leather so I couldn't return. Looks great in room, but not very comfortable. I really like your chairs, good choice, timeless.
