you aren't crazy. In fact, I went and got the hardy plank color matched because so many people in our neighborhood said the very same thing including me. It looks gorgeous in the sun! I tried yellows, and a latte color it doesn't look so good. Any other thoughts?

I like the colour it is with the black framing. I'm wondering what it would look like if the top half of the house was painted black. I don't know how "farm house" that would look but the neutrality of it would be great and it would look really unique...just like some of the other houses in your neighbourhood. I mean a purple house? How cool..:))

I was looking at paint at Home Depot the other day, and I fell in love with two blue colors, they looked kind of grayish blue to me. One is called Viking and the other is Cool Dusk. Try paint samples, they cover about a 3'x3' area and I think they are $4.

When I think Farmhouse, I think Dark Red.

Thank you everyone for your input! We have tried a red, unfortunately not sure I am jumping up and down for this because of the purple house with black trim right beside it. Its almost like lighter colors make the house more airy and free. I am using a lighter interior color inside soft putty and creamy white trim throughout. A gray green is one of my favorite choices but the home to the left is green. its like a mirror. This is so much fun!

with that said, the current look/feel of it is nice! However, i do remember reading somewhere that a "yellow" house sells at a higher rate then the exact same house in any other color. the question I obviously had was "define yellow"

How about the exterior painted a warm cream (not white!) with the windows and trim a deep green? Simple yet bold and likely you won't tire of it.

Hi Kimberlyn! 50% Dove White and 50% Linen White are what I have on my house, avoiding the stark cold white and the yellow-ish creams. I couldn't be more pleased with it. Both are benjamin moore colors, by the way. Try the darkest, darkest benj. moore green which looks almost black for all the trim around the windows as well as the horizontal trim piece. Perfectly pleasing farmhouse colors! Enjoy!

pnina and others do you have experience with off-white colors for the entire home? Just wondering - i have found so many whites with yellow. Someone told me white on white like color. What does that mean? I like the not so stark white shades of farmhouses - is white on white off white with a duller appearance than a bright white?

Kimberlyn, the mix of two paint colors in my previous message results in the color which I have on my house. Near that msg is a picture of our garage, which is that color, with a bright white garage door, in subtle contrast. It is not a yellow-ish cream; at least not to my eye. Try a sample of those two mixed together, and maybe you'll like it too. I think it's warm and wonderful.

I love the idea of dark barn red with black trim - and bank that it'll outlast the purple neighbor :)

Look on stoncrofthomes.net This builder has a gallery of finished homes and a lot of them are done in hardy board side with lots of different colors. I like the Lake George. It is a cool gray blue with white trim and a darker blue front door. I think anything with white trim will have more of a farmhouse look. I've seen the black trim windows and think they look very modern.

I would stain it grey, and paint the trim either dark aubergine purple, or a green, and then paint the doors whichever color you don't choose for the trim.

I like it as is also, but add some color with the trim, maybe in a mocha. Sage green would be another choice. Consider mocha around the windows, and sage on the fascia and the trim board between the two floors. Then white deck railing. The other choice for me would be a sage green body and white trim. Ya, I like sage green, it is light, refreshing and country.

I would choose a light dove grey with white/creamish trims, it's elegant, understated, and looks good with your dark windows the greens around, also a color I could live with. the adjacent building a darker shade of the same tone maybe? You might want to contemplate stains vs paint, gives a rustic look??

A white house is not a very exciting house. So, I'd go with a medium gray house, white trim and a very shiny black front door. Use colorful planting in your landscape. OR, if you're in a daring mood, try an olive green, something on the dark side but not too dark, dark brown trim and a dark red front door. The second color choice is not for the faint of heart.

love the color as it is. However, I would paint the top, upper 1/2 tobacco or bark color by Sherwin Williams. It has a deep brown/green tone.

I would go for a dark teal with white trim (i think that would make the black window pop). Add some window boxes for color, paint the deck white and add black wrought iron furniture......

And of I'd go with a RED DOOR.....My 14yr old daughter has a thing for them :) Good Luck, cant wait to see pics

See if you can make an appointment with the colorist at Benjamin Moore or Kelly Moore Paints. I think the cream color your looking for is a blue based cream or beige but in the white pallat. Trim in a bright white and/or medium gray for the windows. You can have the white trim really pop from the windows if contrast color is used as well. Front door in a vibrant red orange. Your neighborhood sounds pretty colorful. The foilage around your house tells me that it wants to frame a very elegant warm home, so I wouldn't go with darker colors.

thank you tmnicol! I greatly appreciate your input. I have tried getting help with a colorist but they just tell me they don't know - its up to me. Ha ha I have tried over 20 colors (most of them dark and they looked horrible in my opinion) I am seeing happy!

You might consider a deep blue grey for the first floor, then use the same color in half strength for the second storey, keep the trim in a soft white.

Okay-- hi again kimberlyn-- We girls should never be given choices because this is what happens. If you find yourself struggling to commit to color-- then odds are you may not be happy with your final choice. Keep it safe and go neutral. I agree with other posters that cream is safe.
Possibly work in black accents (shutters etc..) A red front door would be beautiful in this color scheme.

If I have pegged your like for bold colors incorrectly then I would purchase a color wheel (local craft store). This tool will help you pair up colors in a harmonious way. ie. complimentary colors, analogous, monochromatic and so on. This tool will also be helpful with your interior as well. You can learn how to use one online.. however you can take the handheld one to the paint store to match up with the hues
and so forth. Good luck.

red - does anyone have a favorite farmhouse red color? I tried cottage red, but thinking it needs a bit of a punch. Thoughts of red?

The red I like for a house like yours is really dark - - - - almost maroon-like but more red - - - OH I think it would be stunning. Other contributors differed, but I still love it with black windows - - -
