I would not attempt to paint those beautiful beaded cabinets.....but that is not what you asked...sorry.

I do not know ballet white, but a distressed black on the island would be pretty.

From the pictures those cabinets look really nice. I love painted, and white kitchens but I would pause before painting over them. I do like the idea of breaking up all that wood with a painted black island, though.

Regarding ballet white, I'm also not familiar with that shade. But by the name I'd guess it has a pinkish tone. That's a tricky thing to make work with many kitchen surfaces - countertops, backsplases & floor tiles or woods.

I'd face the support column or get rid of textured ceiling or replace backsplash or change the floor, in any combination of these options before I'd paint the cabinets....paint the island if you feel strongly, and then pause.

Oh good heavens, I just finished my white shaker kitchen and I LOVE me some white painted cabinets, but please don't paint those.

Have to agree. Maybe this is already in the works but there are some other elements that are in desperate need of change but NOT the cabinets. I can see updating the kitchen and possibly:

1.taking uppers cabinets adjacent to window out

2. replace backsplash/add around window to the ceiling

3. new pendants

4. add a rug

5. update ceiling texture

6.painting the island ?

7. wrap post as suggested above

You can achieve a lighter brighter space without white paint.

really a nice space with some beautiful elements.

it look like you did add new lights though, they are much better but I didn't notice because of that textured ceiling. sorry.

I had to take a second look to be sure I'd opened the right link when I saw the pictures because I couldn't imagine wanting to paint those pretty cabinets. Again, not what you asked but think long and hard about doing that. If you are going for a classic look you could spend some money getting the counter top you want and do a classic backsplash…..yes, I admit it…. I was thinking subway tile. I think a faux marble would look really pretty and classic. Maybe you could just paint the island a sort of anchoring color.

I love my dove white cabinets and I do understand why you would want to paint them.

I think painting them white would look great. Just not a stark cool white. Im not familiar with Ballet white and would have to see it in your lighting anyways.

I think a warm white that looks good with the things you are keeping, like the floor and granite would be best. The white might even bring out the details of beaded inset even more, which is really beautiful!

I know many would not paint them, but I too can understand the reason why you might want to, if the room is kind of dark. Any possibility to add a skylight?

Going by that first picture, I would not be able to live that almost neon gold and orange tone, so I would be wanting to either re-stain or paint myself. Maybe it is just the camera or lighting, but it's pretty overwhelming.

I wonder because then in the second couple pictures, they don't look that bright gold to me at all and are actually quite pretty. However, they still do look like the wood didnt take the stain evenly because it's very blotchy in many places.

Do you have any idea what kind of wood it is?

Also what is your granite called? It looks like Kashmire White.

What color white is your window and baseboard trim? Seems to look nice in the background with your granite and the wall color, so maybe it would work?

You should definitely do some big sample boards and live with them in the space for awhile before deciding. Best wishes and please update us as to what you decide to do.

The OP may know for sure rebunky, but I'm betting they're alder based on the close-up photo.

I love white kitchens, but sorry I do agree with everyone else that says-maybe reconsider the paint. Wood in a natural color like that is a classic look that will never go "out" as white may (debatable). That tone will look good a long time, vs. orange oak or "espresso" stains that are dateable to a decade or two.

The backsplash would be a good place to start with freshening and brightening.
