spectacular hollies

it must have been a good year for berry production on hollies since i see these shrubs often and never really paid much attention to them until this year. some of them are very old and large and some of the pics show a long row around a property. all of these photos were taken two weekends ago. i don't know what kind they are since i did not go onto the properties to take a close-up but chose to stay on the road to photograph. guessing ilex opaca but not sure.

this first photo is from notasulaga, al at an old home site. compare the height to the single-level home in the background. pic is not sharp - the sun was directly behind the top of the tree.

these are found at another older home in loachapoka, al., trained to a single trunk.

last ones are from a large property with an older home, also in loachapoka. most of these were fairly recently planted but there is one older shrub near the home (featured in the last photo). the rows are quite long and frame the property boundary on two sides.
