I hate corner fireplaces they just make life a misery I would remove the rocks and just drywall that whole space to make it disappear.

Nancy I loved that you showed me those photo shopped picture options..thank you! Do you think you could do for same with the white plank ....I'm so wanting to do it, but maybe seeing what it would look like wouldgive me a better idea if it would work or not

You are right Nancy, it does look disjointed. What if I did it stained distressed wood to match more the tones of the rock on the fireplace with a rustic white mantel

HI -- Sorry but this horrible thing is never going to look right . It looks squashed into the corner which is wrong in the first place , and the top is up too high which will make a mantel look to high if you topped it with one . What kind of fireplace is it - wood burning - gas - or just a fire box that was set there and the stone added . I would have it re-moved or have the stone re-moved then built to the ceiling and kept plain and then painted the same as the walls so it visually disappears . I certainly would not adorn it with a mantel and then stuff on top of that . It really does nothing for the room.

Be careful adding a mantel--your shutters might not open.

Such a poorly designed room--bet it was easy for the builder to install the FP in the corner. Why else would anyone have the idea to put it there??? Hey, let's all gather around the fireplace--one at a time. I was going to say hearth but there isn't one...is that safe?

For safety you need a hearth.
