I would remove the console and the lamps altogether, then push the love seat against the wall and add a floor lamp between the love seat and chair. Lower your large family photo and add more framed family photos around it to fill the space. Remove the little shelves. Finally, add a coffee table.

Another option is to flip the room - switch the sofa and love seat so the larger sofa is on the long wall. Switch the tv to the other side of the fireplace. This will allow you to fill the wall above the sofa with larger artwork.

I think you have too much furniture in the room. Could you move the 2 chairs in front of the christmas tree elsewhere. Make an "L" shape with sofa and love seat and keep the other chair in the room. Use the foot stool as your coffee table.

Hang your picture over the fireplace and take away the little decorations on mantel. Yes, take down the 2 little shelves.

Too much going on the room. The sofa should be on the long wall, no table behind it. That just pushes it into the living space. Then you have 2 options. Face the love seat to the FP or place it in front of windows. If you face it to FP then pull the chair in from the corner or if you put it in front of windows bring the chair out to where the swivel one is now. No shelves. Lower large family picture to 5" above sofa back and use the smaller ones around it to make a gallery. Lay it out on the floor until you get an arrangement that you like.

Thank you all for the great suggestions! I'm struggling as to how to maintain the seating I need in the room. We frequently need seating for 7-8 adults. I agree that it seems there's a lot of furniture in the room; however, I don't like the idea of not having the seating I need.
