Need help with boxy ranch exterior update

We will be putting in new windows and siding for our ranch this spring. I would like to do something to break up the boxy look. We considered putting on a small front porch but I don't know if that is worth the expense. I would love it if I could get some advice or ideas for this house to add more dimension to the front of the house. We will also be redoing the landscaping, taking out the yard and the sidewalk in the front and putting in a flagstone paver walkway. Also need ideas for siding, vertical or horizontal? We will be doing composite siding, so the shingle looking ones are an option as well. I like to go for a cottage look with some dimension and character. The junipers in front have been removed

I would add shutters to add dimension. black shutters and greige shingles would look great.

No shutters! With those two oversized windows, they could never look anything but silly.

I'd darken the color of the garage door to deemphasize it in the facade, and pick a strong color for the front door (deep blue, maybe). I dunno, I like this one, it seems clean and classic -- I'd just put larger patio lights, house numbers, and doorside planters, and maybe lay in a mix of plantings all along the walkway, and be done.

But people do add porches to ranches. Let's see what photos I can find...

You're on the right track with the walkway. You have a lovely home. Put your money in landscaping. Replace or paint the front door. Shutters would not look right in my opinion.

The most natural would be a porch that just extend the current roof over the door and right two windows, maybe making room for a bench there. Might be cute, if you can integrate the design a bit (brick bases to the posts?)...
