Let me see:

Wood - needs lots of up-keep. sun/rain will make the paint peel.

Vinyl - virtually no maintenance - maybe wash it once a year.

yes, those are true points, but when i had wood i did research, Wood is actually the best and most expensive material, at least it was about 10 years ago. vinyl needs lots of artificial insulation, and does not tend to hold its shape as well as wood, warping, etc. It is not advertised as much because of cost, and most people think the old windows and they do not wish to fix the sashes, which a pain, but not all that hard.
