Don't try to make this decision before the cabinets are in. You'll have a better feel for the look you want when you can see the project further along.

What style are the cabinets? If they're Shaker then I'd keep the hardware simple. You can also use just knobs instead of pulls and knobs for a nice clean look.

You can very successfully mix metals, too.

The cabinet maker wants us to choose a hardware so he can drill the holes before it's installed.

Would probably not do ORB in a new project, given its waning popularity. You're probably aware that the metal du jour is brushed brass, which is a lovely new take on that old shiny 80s look.

Agree with leelee that waiting until the cabinets are in would be ideal -- but it might end up causing you some extra, tedious work. Often, when the cabinets are installed, the installer will install the hardware too if it's on-hand. Not a huge issue, just a thought.

She's also correct about the mixing metals thing. Key is to go with the style and tone you like. OH...and a great piece of advice from our kitchen cabinet person -- if you're, um, vertically challenged like I am (5'3"), cabinet pulls that extend out on either end will attack you by grabbing your pockets!

Love your wood ceiling, all that light, and the arched entry. What a nice kitchen!

I have a stainless refrigerator and stove and I used the oil rubbed bronze cabinet handles and cup handle drawer pulls. My cabinets are cream and it turned out great. I have a collection of antique aluminum in my kitchen and the mixture of different metals looks fine. I also like your idea of the tin handles. That color will stand out a little more if your cabinets are stained instead of painted like mine. At the time I remodeled bronze was the most popular choice, so that is what I choose and I still like it! I suggest having the cabinet maker stain a sample piece of wood and buying a handle of each color. Try them out and see which you like best. Good luck!!

That architecture demands modern components. Clean lined and simple. Slab front cabinets and plain chrome or stainless bow pulls or tab pulls. Nothing at all traditional and fussy or 90's ''Tuscan". It will look like it landed from Mars in that house.

Sophia the house architecture is a more villa look. Lots of arches, mexican tile, stucco etc. It's in Arizona. The family room next to the kitchen has a large carved canterra fireplace with carved and marble end tables, oriental rugs etc. It sets in the foothills of a mountain range. It's honestly more Tuscan than modern but I know that's really hard to tell with one photo.

I think a brushed brass would be nice but you should have a cabinet in hand and a few knob colors before you choose. Good luck! Your kitchen is gorgeous!

@amber1960: Are you handy with a drill as personally I would wait until the cabinets are all in place prior to making a decision. In other words do not be pressured into making one as there are reasonably priced templates (plastic guides) you can purchase for hardware placement so it is something you can do yourself if need be. (Be sure though that you have them install the units and align the doors/drawers.) That said; in the mean time purchase a selection of both handles and knobs so you can try them out (after installation) as I have seen kitchens with far too many handles and/or vice versa whereas in some cases IMHO a mix of both would have been superior in aesthetics so that too (besides finish and style) is something to consider.

Same answer as in your earlier/previous post: match the metal tones. Only go with ORB if you have other copper accents (like the sink etc)

I've been designing and selling custom kitchens for over 20 years... drilling for hardware before the cabinets are installed is a mistake...the installer can easily do it on site. Don't be pressured into selecting hardware without seeing it in your home with your new cabinets if this is important to you; you may pay for a return trip to have it drilled/installed however in most installations the cabinet person comes back after the counter installation for final adjustments, moulding etc. Your home sounds lovely... no one is going to reject based on the kitchen pulls at the time of resale...you are likely going to have a mixture of metals (what are the hinges and passage door handles, light fixtures and appliances) most homes have a variety and many don't notice. Do not beat yourself up over this, pick what you love.
