Peeling and cracking paint.

We had ceilings and interior of house repainted over the summer before we move in. Now, in January/February we notice cracks in the insider corners and some cracking paint on the ceiling. Is this poor prep/workmanship or is this within normal limits. Want to know before having painter come and repaint. Thanks!!

The photo below seems to show leaks, drywall mud doesn't do that on its own. Cracks usually mean settling, possibly the house drying out with the heat on?

Check your insulation and vapor barrier in the attic. And your skylight's flashing. I think you've got a moisture issue.

Thanks for the feedback on the ceiling. Who would I get to check that out for me? This is a pic of what is going on in rest of house. Settling? What to do? Not due to poor prep by painter?

Poor preparation has a different look to it. The ceiling (by the sky light) has "moisture issues" written ALL over it! The cracking of the finish in the corner has "settling" written all over it.

When prep is the problem, there is an entirely different look. You would see 50-100% of the paint would be bubbling, or look like orange skin, and then peeling would be everywhere.

The paint looks well adhered to the surface underneath. The moisture on the ceiling is a BIG issue. The corner is something that happens when drywall settles or a home settles. Nothing a painter can do about that.

No. I'm sorry your issue is not with the painter...it is with the home itself. That moisture is a BIG issue. Get a roofing professional out as soon as you can. There are problems with that roof/window junction.

The painter can come back in once you have all the issues with the roof dealt with. Until then, there is nothing a painter can do for you.
