Southeast Coastal Gardening

Moving to Myrtle Beach, SC

Have lived near Winston-Salem, NC zone 7 for 14 years. My DH and I want to move to the coast to retire and enjoy life, so we are currently looking in the MB area. We have many cherished perennials to bring with us. Please share any suggestions about gardening there, such as what not to bring with us and what grows well. We have begun to look for a house on about an acre or less where we can bring our 4 chickens.

We can't tell you which plants not to bring without knowing what you have. :-) Maybe you can make a list of your favorites for us.

If you haven't already, become familiar with the Clemson Extension website. Myrtle Beach is in Horry County, pronounced OR REE, or oh ree..... never with the H sound, and not rhyming with sorry. You will be corrected every time you mispronounce it, lol.

Myrtle is in zone 8, I believe.
