I am not sure how big your space is..this seems rather large, but like the concept. I think the piece is just bulky looking. It reminds me of a bunk bed for some reason...lol. I'm not sure how many people you would like to fit at a dining table, but this pic shows an awesome way to save space without giving up function and decor. The table can double as work space. Houzz has some awesome ideas under home office photos. The second table is from IKEA. I like the slim lines- you can easily seat 6 there. The table is an great size and price- get two and make an L shape workspace. Ikea also has some great functional tables on wheels you can use for printers etc. Then when you need to entertain wheel them out of the way. This sofa table would work great for books, files, baskets etc.

I love the concept of the unit, and is very practical for an office but way to cold for dining. Find something along the same line but with doors to cover all the shelving to" keep the office behind doors". If you were to add some brightly coloured glass items to the shelves on the front end of the table it would feel more like a diningroom but won't be out of place for the office
