You will need a high heat paint, not sure it even comes in colors (BBQ spray paint). Personally, I would leave it black and paint the tools to match.

Yea, I guess that's an idea too. I do like the look of the brushed bronze though. Another idea I had was to paint the screen a solid color, like a burnished bronze color.
But, yes no matter which way I went I know I'd have to do it in high heat paint.

Check online for a commercial metal distributer. They have spray paint in metal colors. Not sure if they have high heat paint however. Could try a gas fireplace sales center as well.

I really don't think it's that tough of a project if I had the right materials. I just need some gold strokes through it. Maybe I'll get high heat gold paint and a small brush and give it a try.

Joe - your fireplace tools actually look like someone used rub n buff on them. Maybe you could use some of that on the fireplace screen? I'm not sure about it's heat tolerance .....

I found Rub n buff when I was searching online but thought it was something that could be easily rubbed off, something not permanent so discarded the idea. maybe I'll look into that idea again though. The toolset I have, came from the manufacturer that way...

I've used it on a lamp that doesn't get a ton of use - hasn't worn off at all. Again - I'd want to research it's heat-tolerance before I put it on something like a fire screen...

I contacted the manufacturer and they told me what to do. For anyone else interested in this type of project, you use another product the have called Leaf n Brush which is a paint. You apply is using the dry brushing technique. we'll see how it turns out...

goflyrm, I would sand down the brass finish, then use some high heat black spray paint. After that you would want to use a product called "Brush n Leaf" in either old gold or antique gold and apply it using a technique called dry brushing.

Please note, I have never done this before but is apparently the way it is done to achieve the brushed bronze look.

How about painting the tools black?
They won't get as hot as the screen.
Also,is it that important to have them match? They look fine together.

Thanks! It is, great product and easy to work with. I used the Antique Gold color. The steps I used was to go over it with 0000 fine steel wool (to give the paint something to bite onto), then wiped it down with alcohol and lastly used a fan brush and dry brushed the paint on using very little paint on the brush. I could see how one could get carried away with this as I'm seeing a ton of things around the house that could use a little if this paint.

Build a fire and see how it fares.
