We live in the Chicago area - so we are faced with some pretty cold weather from December - March.

Our home is 10 years old. We have a large (600sq ft) bonus room above the garage.

This room is not used as much as it used to be - and has a separate HVAC zone. However, we have a ton of cracks in the ceiling and dry wall - that we believe is due to the space getting super cold in the winter and hot in the summer.

We repaired the ceiling once - and the cracks came back.

Then, cracks in the drywall started to appear.

We don't use our garage for anything else than housing cars, bikes etc.

We'd like to fix the walls and ceiling - but are concerned that the problem will continue to occur.

Will a garage heater do anything to help?
