Front Yard Curb Appeal

We moved to this home about 2 years ago and I've been struggling with what to do with our landscaping. I plan to remove these overgrown bushes this year and replace them with something else... Any ideas on trees, plants, grass or bushes??? I live in Michigan so I would like at least one plant that looks good in the winter too. (pic taken in the fall)

This picture below is of the bushes in front of the bay window. (I know they're dark pictures) I'm also thinking of replacing these and possibly adding hydrangeas...??? Obviously I'm not good at keeping them trimmed. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!!!

Funny, I actually like the mature plantings the best. The others look woefully too small and too similar in shape and texture. There are plenty of good options but I would start by looking at yards you like around your neighborhood and seeing what they are doing. I do not know what is particularly native to your area, so that you would go to a local nursery and not just Home Depot.

Make sure you think from the ground up: ground cover, seasonal like flowers, shrubbery and finally some height to balance it out.

Maybe you can raise your flower beds a little too if you're going to replace the bushes and use a nice dark mulch instead of those little rocks. There are a ton of options in terms of materials for a retaining wall that would nicely define the landscaping without breaking the bank. I've heard hydrangeas can be finicky to get started depending on your zone and soil pH but I also have a black thumb. Good luck

Love hydrangeas and buxus hedges, I have the Annebelle hydrangeas like in 2nd pic behind a buxus hedge looks amazing, these are very hardy. Think green and white gardens look awesome. I would be inclined to grow 4 or 5 trees in that big front yard, give you some privacy
