Need help for my garden.

I've had some success with harvesting seeds from grocery store squashes, peppers, and even a lemon! I need more experience in getting a greater yield and so I'm looking to the seed aexchange for help.

i have limited tools, and limited space with full sun, but that hasn't stopped me from trying yet. I have a small plot on the hill in my back yard, and lots of 3 gallon plastic buckets. Two home composters are in constant use, taking on weeds from the gardens and leaves after they fall. Kitchen scraps go in there year round (we have to shovel a path, yes)

ive had a lot of success with tomatoes and some pole beans, but most other plants I've tried don't seem to flourish--carrots only growing up to 3" or so, parsnips growing long and pencil thin, pumpkin and squashes that only seem to spread and produce almost exclusively male flowers.

i figure if I'm to have a successful crop im going to need some expert advice. So here I am: advise me!
