The niche to the left feels a bit crowded now...can this be "flipped" to the room on the other side of the wall?

We are finishing the niche this week. Any ideas would be great.

Possibly sheetrock over the wall next to the fireplace, and open it up to access the void space either from the room on the other side, or perhaps the left side as you go through the door....

Thank you for the ideas. I can sheet rock over it...but behind this is a outside wall on a covered porch. The door opening is to the master bedroom. They all meet in this corner.

Should I just get rid of the niche? It used to house entertainment components, but I won't need them anymore in this spot? I was going to build a bookcase in with wood, painted the same color as the wall. Any advice is appreciated. Colors again for great room.

Wow! Love the fireplace stone colors...and the rock mantle. Great feature! eat details to the pattern also. About the niche, it's an odd shape. I'd try filling it with sheetrock and making a solid wall. Perhaps use that space for art or pictures.

What a difference that made--love it. Now the room needs a great piece of art - really make it pop!! . I have just completed several pieces of art that would look awesome. A bit hard to see, but reduced size of niche and now just enough room for some firewood.

I think I would close up the niche completely and hang some artwork on the wall.

I agree to close the niche completely....it detracts from your beautiful fireplace... I would do a soft gray or stone color on walls........great work...

The niche is annoying and has to go. Very distracting. Its the first thing I look at because its an oddity.

Wall color is going to be carrington beige by ben Moore. Ceiling is white down. Niche might get closed and access through hallway on left. I am driving my go to man crazy with this niche.

Hi missb! I just asked what color you used and I see here it is carrington beige. It looks great. Also, we have the same situation with our fireplace. Did you remove the old stone? If so, how did you do it and did your husband do it or a contractor? If contractor could you please tell me the cost? Here is a picture of our current fireplace. Thank-you!
